XNUMXth Congress of the Communist Party of China endorses anti-corruption fight

They define the eradication of corruption as "the most complete self-revolution", a goal of Xi Jinping's administration that is increasingly closer to its objective

On the sidelines of the XNUMXth Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC),
One of the goals achieved that is displayed with pride is the fight against corruption. Far above any criticism from the West, the Chinese have registered surprising figures in the reduction of acts of corruption in the last decade, one of the objectives set for the current administration of the government.

The deputy secretary of the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, Xiao Pei, commented at a press conference before local and foreign media, that from the highest levels of the party, numerous investigation and sanction processes have been opened against cadres and members of the CCP, who have been involved in acts of corruption.

Xiao offered exemplary figures on how the fight against corruption has been carried out over the past 10 years, during which the phenomenon has been brought under control. “The national disciplinary inspection and supervision bodies have investigated a total of 207.000 ‘top leaders’ at all levels,” said the official, who explained that this has been going on since the XNUMXth Party Congress was held at the beginning of Xi Jinping’s first term.

Among those investigated, there are 49 members of the 18th Central Committee and alternate members of the Central Committee, 12 members of the 18th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, 12 alternate members of the 19th Central Committee and 6 members of the 19th Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, he said. .

Xiao recalled Xi Jinping's speech at the 17th National Congress of the Communist Party, when he said that "no matter who, no matter how high their position, as long as they violate Party discipline and state laws, they must be severely investigated and severely punished. This is by no means an empty promise."

"The evil bamboo must be cut down"

The process of "hunting" undertaken against the corrupt in China was not without controversy and trauma. Before the arrival of Xi Jinping to power, the diagnosis of the situation was critical, because corruption was permeating the circles of political power and weakening the image of the party.

Xiao Pei told reporters that since Xi came to power, "the disciplinary inspection and supervision organs have investigated and punished more than 74.000 people suspected of corruption and bribery," of which 48% committed corruption before arrival. of the current Secretary-General at the helm. Another 11% were sanctioned after Xi's second term, showing a significant decline in corruption.

In his speech before the delegates of the XX Congress of the Communist Party, held on October 16, Xi Jinping warned of the need to put into practice the eight anti-corruption regulations adopted by the Party Central Committee and correct the "four unhealthy habits".

Among the regulations observed by the General Secretary are the "Regulations on Integrity and Discipline of the Communist Party of China," the "Regulations on Accountability of the Communist Party of China," the "Regulations on Disciplinary Punishment of the Communist Party of China," and the "Regulations on Labor Inspection of the Communist Party of China," among others.

For the Disciplinary Commission of the Chinese Communist Party, the "four unhealthy habits" for which officials and militants are usually investigated and punished are formalism, bureaucracy, hedonism and a proclivity to waste and lavishness.

popular measures

In Xiao Pei's opinion, the Chinese population has welcomed the results of the fight against corruption undertaken by the highest levels of power. He said that the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, of which he is a member, has cooperated with the National Statistical Office to conduct public opinion surveys for ten consecutive years.

The results of this work show that "97,4% of the public believe that the integral and strict governance of the party is effective", which according to the official represents an increase of 22,4% compared to 2012.

Xiao said that the polls conducted by the Party show that 99% of the people believe that the measures taken by the Party Central Committee to "maintain discipline and fight against corruption" reflect "the deep self-revolutionary spirit of the Party." .
He said that as long as "the ground and the conditions for corruption" exist, the fight against this scourge cannot be stopped for a moment, "and the accusation must always sound like a hype."
