In Bishkek, Kyrgyzstan, representatives of the member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) agreed to strengthen regional cooperation in security, economy, technology, energy, environment and international relations.
According to the Xinhua news agency, the document reflects a unified position of the member countries, reaffirming principles such as respect for sovereignty, non-interference, strengthening dialogue and multilateral cooperation.
As part of this agreement, they declared illegal any interference in the internal affairs of sovereign states and reaffirmed that the organization does not constitute a political-military bloc.
In the economic and financial sphere, the countries agreed to strengthen the SCO Interbank Association and supported greater participation of developing countries in international financial institutions. For this reason, the organization spoke out against unilateral coercive measures against nations, as it considers them to violate international norms.
The summit also approved new security cooperation mechanisms, including the creation of the Universal Center against Security Challenges and Threats, and condemned terrorism in all its forms, reaffirming its commitment to nuclear non-proliferation and the peaceful use of nuclear energy.
Cooperation in the field of AI
One of the points discussed was the advancement of artificial intelligence, so the members agreed to promote the creation of regional data centers, through a multilateral memorandum of cooperation in this area.
At this point, the participation of the People's Republic of China was key, where on numerous occasions they have expressed the importance of promoting global governance in this area, and therefore reiterated their call to establish an international cooperation center for the application of AI with other countries of the organization.
This center, details the Xinhua news agency, will allow the joint execution of 100 technological cooperation projects over the next three years.
In this regard, the President of the People's Republic of China, Xi Jinping, set out four priorities for the organization, focused on promoting development and shared prosperity, strengthening common security, deepening people-to-people exchanges, and upholding dialogue and consultation to advance towards fairer international governance.
Xi noted that the SCO should uphold a universally beneficial and inclusive economic globalization, consolidate cooperation in traditional areas such as trade and investment, connectivity, energy and resources, and expand cooperation in emerging areas such as artificial intelligence, the digital economy, green industry and green mining, according to the Xihua news agency.
