Norway reaffirms its commitment to the peace process in Colombia

Norway, the guarantor country, together with Cuba, of the table of talks between the State and the former rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (Farc-EP), reaffirmed this Saturday its commitment to the peace process in the South American nation.

"The international community, like the government, has been very clear that they fully support those who are involved in the process and want to move forward," said the Norwegian ambassador in Bogotá, John Petter Opdahl, in an interview with the Pares Foundation.

He also stressed that "we have never abandoned a process, unless the parties so wish.

Norway has been a reliable and consistent partner in long processes ”; The European country has been involved as a companion or mediator in at least 10 peace processes since the 1990s and since 2012 has played the role of facilitator in the conflict in Colombia.

Among the aspects highlighted by Opdahl is the importance of the reintegration of former insurgents into civilian life, a process that they support because they consider it “key to the future of the country, but also to national stability and security.”

He assured that although some of the ex-commanders have left the process "there are many productive projects underway, already implemented."

The ambassador also made reference to the new generation that wants to take care of their country in a different way and, to achieve this, they need peace, to be able to live in a calmer Colombia, with more work, more income, greater care for the environment.
