Luisa González and Daniel Noboa point to the second round in Ecuador

The correísmo candidate leads the businessman in the first bulletins of the electoral body.

The correísmo candidate, Luisa González, and the businessman Daniel Noboa took advantage this Sunday at the beginning of the counting of the extraordinary presidential elections in Ecuador, after processing 10% of the votes.

So far González, who is running for the Citizen Revolution movement, led by former President Rafael Correa (2007-2017), holds 32,61% of the votes, while Noboa has 24,66%.

In third position is the murdered Fernando Villavicencio, with 16,33% that will fall on his replacement, the journalist Christian Zurita, while in fourth place is the former legionary and security specialist businessman Jan Topic, with 14,60%.

If these trends continue, there would be a second round on October 15 between the two candidates with the most votes, since to win in the first round it is necessary to obtain at least 40% of the votes and a difference of less than ten points over the rest.

In total, there are eight candidates in the running to succeed the current president, the conservative Guillermo Lasso, and complete his 2021-2025 term, interrupted by the head of state last May when he invoked the constitutional mechanism of "cross-death."

In this way, the president dissolved the National Assembly (Parliament), with an opposition majority, when he was preparing to vote on his dismissal as the last step in a political trial where the opposition had accused him of alleged embezzlement (embezzlement), a charge he denies. and rejects, and forced the calling of these extraordinary elections.

Noboa declares himself a contender for González for the second round

The businessman and former assembly member Daniel Noboa declared himself this Sunday as the rival of the correísta Luisa González to contest the second round of the extraordinary presidential elections in Ecuador, after the two lead the count with 25% of the votes counted.

Noboa, 35, the son of magnate and five-time presidential candidate Álvaro Noboa, stressed at a press conference that he will be the one who has the opportunity to defeat Correísmo in the ballot scheduled for Sunday, October 15.

"It won't be the first time that a new project has turned the political establishment upside down. That freshness in politics is what has brought us here," he said at the press conference, held in Guayaquil, to which his campaign staff did not allow access to the media or international agencies.

Sonnenholzner accepts his defeat

The candidate for the Presidency of Ecuador Otto Sonnenholzner accepted this Sunday the electoral defeat by being very far from the possibility of going to the second round of voting (ballotage) between the two most voted candidates.

According to the preliminary results, Sonnenholzner is fifth among the eight presidential candidates registered for the presidential elections.

In a meeting with his supporters in the port city of Guayaquil, Sonnenholzner accepted the results and congratulated those who come in first and second places, who will have the right to go to the second round of elections scheduled for October 15.

The candidate of the Actuemos party recalled that whoever becomes president of the country in the second round of elections will govern the country for just "a year and a half," since he will complete the term of the conservative Guillermo Lasso, the current president who called for extraordinary elections after dissolving the National Assembly (Parliament) last May.
