Trujillo strengthens earthquake response with evacuation drills in public institutions, communities and university centers

More than 36.000 citizens have been trained in self-protection, evacuation and first aid protocols in the state of Trujillo, as part of a seismic prevention and risk management plan deployed by the Regional Directorate of Civil Protection and Disaster Management, through the Coordination of Community Training and Capacity Building during July and August.

According to a report issued by the organization, the training program has prioritized practical and evaluative exercises in public administration headquarters, as well as in communities and educational institutions.

In the municipality of Trujillo, technical officials measured and evaluated the evacuation routes and infrastructure of the National Housing Institute (Inavi), the National Integrated Tax Administration Service (Seniat), the Institute of Culture and Arts (Incaet), the Ministry of Popular Power for Ecosocialism and the Regional Tax Administration Service (Satet), issuing recommendations to shorten emergency exit times.

The preventative strategy responds to the need to keep the population prepared for seismic activity, combining theoretical instruction with field maneuvers.

Drills in classrooms and communities

In the area of education, the Civil Protection Faculty of the National Experimental Security University (UNES), Trujillo campus, conducted the workshop "Earthquake Safety." The activity included a full-scale guided evacuation drill in which students and faculty practiced identifying safe zones, evacuation signage, and panic control techniques during an earthquake.

Meanwhile, municipal risk management units have expanded their outreach to community sectors. In the Flor de Patria parish, Pampán municipality, emergency drills were conducted focusing on family self-protection and neighborhood organization in the face of natural disasters.

Civil Protection risk management teams reported that they will continue assessments and technical instruction in public institutions and residential areas of the 20 municipalities in order to consolidate the preventive culture in the state.
