This Tuesday, the Diocese of Trujillo together with the parishioners celebrated the forty-second anniversary of the canonical coronation of its patron saint, the Virgin of Peace, with a varied program that began at 7 in the morning, with the Eucharist and then gave way to a special broadcast on public and private radio stations and social networks.
In this regard, the diocesan bishop, Monsignor José Trinidad Fernández Angulo, pointed out that the canonical coronation is a recognition by the Church of the Marian devotion of a people who have believed in the Virgin Mary, under the title of La Paz, for more than 460 years.
“More than 400 years ago, faith came through the hands of Mary, and that is why the life of this town is consecrated to the Virgin in the hearts of all its inhabitants. The canonical coronation, more than a sentiment, has to be a life of trust in the hands of the Blessed Virgin Mary, in whom she will never abandon us and who has always trusted, and whoever trusts has hope and whoever has hope lives happily. Mary is God's gift to this land of Trujillo,” he said.
He recalled that on October 8, 1982, 42 years ago, Trujillo was filled with faith and Marian love when it participated in the canonical coronation of the exalted patron saint, whose celebration took place in the Doctor Humberto González Albano stadium in the capital city.
Monsignor Fernández Angulo invited citizens to have the image of the Virgin of Peace in their homes, to go out and enter with the peace that Mary radiates in the title of Our Lady of Peace.
“The Virgin of Peace is planted in the hearts of the people of Trujillo,” he said.
Patron Saint Festivities in 2025
The diocesan bishop, Monsignor José Trinidad Fernández Angulo, took the opportunity to announce that on January 24, 2025, the solemnity in honor of Our Lady of Peace will be held at the four-hundred-year-old Doctor Humberto González Albano stadium, and extended the invitation to the people of Trujillo from the 20 municipalities to participate in the patronal festival.
"We are going to celebrate with joy what God always does for all of us. This has to be the great celebration of the Diocese of Trujillo to say that we are Marian and that we want the Blessed Virgin Mary as the mother who reconciles us and fills us with her peace and joy that we must spread to the rest," he emphasized.
For his part, the priest Gustavo Godoy, parish priest of the cathedral church, announced the motto that will accompany the festivities in honor of the patron saint during the coming 2025, which is "Let us walk with Mary: Queen of Hope and Peace."
He also mentioned that during the first days of January 2025, the lowering of the image of Our Lady of Peace will take place, to begin the traditional patron saint festivities.
