Last installment, yes, but…

"If I give my all, why is it never enough?" That's how my 2024 ended.

2025 brought me countless answers, where the focus wasn't just on me.

This year, life forced me (and continues to force me) to let go of things I wanted to keep, to which I dedicated many years of effort, care, and love.

Only someone who has left a loving relationship, only someone who has been abandoned when they still wanted to continue, can know how much and how painful that end is.

In this way, I understood the not-at-all subtle difference between being cheated on, told to go to hell, and going to no contact versus "letting go" because life plans don't fit.

Sometimes, as strange as it may sound, anger and hatred give us a kind of boost that sadness does not.

This year showed me, in a hurry, that sometimes things go wrong even if we do everything right, that there are processes that we cannot control no matter how much we want to, that Sometimes "accepting" things, "adapting," is not a defeat but the only possible way to survive.

After four ENT doctors, many tests, a homeopath, a chiropractor and several acupuncture sessions, the tinnitus (post otitis media with effusion, myringotomy, etc., etc.) has not gone away and I decided to… “accept it.”

After three months of suffering, seeking opinions, spending money, I have finally entered that phase... convinced that Acceptance is the path to transformation, even if it is difficult.

This year also made me understand that some things, even if we've dreamed about them all our lives, come just when we can't or don't want to accept them, and... it's time to face that reality head on.

Other times they arrive but in different ways than imagined, than dreamed, and We must fight to emerge whole (or broken but better) from the pitched battle between expectations and reality.

Today, for example, I am dismantling the "cereal box family" that I had constructed as the only possible one for me, for my life.

Suddenly, a forty-something living with his mom seems more of a "red flag" to me than a divorced guy... and I apologize to the forty-somethings who live with their mother and are reading this column. I know we're in a complex economic situation, that every family has its own particularities, but but but... if your mother still tidies up your room, does the laundry, cleans the bathroom, cooks for you: you're not functional!

This year also reminded me that Nothing is forever and yet some things can stay with us for a lifetime.... how this column will remain in me, the stories and comments that each of you sent me over these four years of "love affairs."

Today, like all these months, life forces me to let go of something I don't want to let go, but perhaps in time it will also explain its reasons to me, make me understand why things have to be this way and not another way.

Thanks to you, I also understood this: the importance of being grateful for what I've experienced, of being excited about what's to come, and of letting go of the pain of what no longer exists or cannot exist.

From his hands I learned that we are never alone, that "nothing is as personal as it seems," that What we think only happens to us... has already happened to someone else, that it is possible to be more empathetic, that If we can transform some pathetic conceptions that the system has placed in us but that, in reality, do not belong to us.

I began this column by recounting the worst romantic deception I've ever experienced, trying to explain that "lovers" also suffer (without "excusing" them for it) and that you should blame your husband for the infidelity, ma'am, and not the other woman.

But then I told them about my friends who have become sisters, about the man I love the most (my father), about the complex relationship I have with my mother, about the Jessicueva (my house), about my love for solitude, about the passion I feel for my job, about my travels, about the movies or series I liked, about my cat, about my fears and my mistakes, about the most "deadly" side of celebrities, about the other versions of history (where women are not always "the guilty ones") and, at the same time, we rewrote together everything that you told me/confided in me (and forgive me for the emails that were left out).

For me it has been an honor the opportunity that you gave me Últimas Noticias, read them and also bare my soul here every Friday for so many months.

I'm immensely grateful to have had such supportive readers. You've certainly made my life much warmer and more beautiful.

I'll be right back, just a click away, on whatever network you like best:

And I will always, absolutely always, be willing to read or listen to your stories.

Remember: everything passes (endure the bad and enjoy the good) and love will continue to be in the air, in you, in what you see and do day after day, and not just in a couple.

A big hug.

  1. Buddha said: "Pain is inevitable, being happy is a choice," and that is a very difficult task to learn, like letting go, like understanding that sometimes not everything is black and white, but that you must know that in this life you have to know when to stand up and say NO!, no matter how it comes out or how we think is best, that we must be careful of the small selfish acts that raise great waves and change the lives of people who do not deserve for certain things to happen to them, that it is more important to fill our eyes with those things that seem ordinary, but are imperceptible precisely because of that, but they make life worth living. Do not regret even your mistakes, because if not, you will not learn from them. Life is here, as far as I know, there is no after.
    A abrazo.

  2. Jessica, I've been following you since your show on Radio del Sur. I appreciate you; I think you're my synonym. I just finished reading your article and said to myself: CDM, what I was missing! From my head turned into an ocean, my ears turned into turbulence, and from my throbbing heart, receive the hug I'd like to give you someday. I appreciate you, talking woman. God protect you. "Onward, always forward." Rodolfo admires you.
