YouTube will double the requirements for monetizing new channels starting in 2027.

New creators will need 8.000 hours of watch time or 20 million views on Shorts

YouTube will update the entry requirements for its Partner Program for new creators starting February 1, 2027. The company will require 8.000 hours of watch time on long-form videos in the last 365 days, double the current requirement of 4.000 hours.

For YouTube Shorts content, the platform will raise the threshold for cumulative views in the last 90 days from 10 million to 20 million. The company confirmed that the minimum of 1.000 subscribers required to access monetization benefits will remain unchanged.

The new measures will not have retroactive effect on accounts already enrolled in the program before the specified date. Likewise, the basic tier requirements for accessing fan support tools, such as Super Chats or memberships with 500 subscribers, will remain the same.

Impact on the sector and barriers to content creation

Tightening the entry rules aims to improve the quality of the available catalog and respond to the massive increase in channels competing for advertising space. This measure will primarily affect emerging projects, which will require more production time and consistency to achieve profitability within the social network.

Technology industry analysts point out that this decision strengthens the platform's professional standing compared to other video market alternatives. With this strategy, the company aims to optimize the distribution of advertising revenue among creators with the largest audiences.

For content creators in Venezuela who use this platform, these new rules of the game will also apply without exception.
