The explosion of a transformer generated a fire at the Centro Plant, considered one of the thermoelectric plants that provides the greatest amount of energy to the National Electric System, according to military sources. Planta Centro is located on the Morón-Puerto Cabello (Car) highway, approximately 5 kilometers from the El Palito refinery, where the Iranian ships Fortune and Forest full of fuel have arrived.
The incident began late afternoon on Wednesday when a Centro Plant transformer, allegedly caused by a power surge, exploded, according to initial reports. This in turn caused a fire in the vegetation of the complex, which threatened to spread to an existing hydrogen plant at the thermoelectric plant.
Firefighters from Guacara and Pdvsa initiated the attention of the incident by applying maneuvers to prevent the spread of the flames. Later, other units of the Integrated Civil Protection System of Carabobo were incorporated, whose chief, Colonel Lino Pérez, presented himself at the scene of the event.
The Integrated Civil Protection System coordinated with Pequiven and PDVSA to obtain the necessary foam to refresh the burned infrastructure, the source explained.
Firefighter units are kept on site attending to the contingency.
