El Public ministry confirmed this Sunday the arrest in Costa Rica of the suspect in the murder of former lieutenant Ronald Ojeda, Maickel Villegas, and provided more information about the case.
«On July 12, 2024, it was arrested In Costa Rica, Maickel Villegas, against whom there was an arrest warrant and red alert for the kidnapping and murder of former lieutenant Ronald Ojeda," reported the attorney general, Tarek William Saab, through his account on the social network X.
Saab said that the authorities in Chile, where the crime occurred, are unable to explain how Ojeda, who has political asylum status in that territory, "could enter and leave the country to carry out conspiratorial actions aimed at Venezuela and other countries."
Furthermore, he highlighted that the arrest of Villegas in Costa Rica refutes what was stated by the Chilean Government about the presence of this subject in Venezuela.
Saab He added that Villegas had a work permit in Chile, "which was extended after the crime was committed and an arrest warrant was issued against him, considering him 'qualified to be hired and carry out paid activities.'"
Faced with this situation, Ojeda's relatives moved to another country, specifically to Argentina, "requesting 'protection' according to them," said the prosecutor.
He also stated that everything detailed in his message implies the criminal use of Ojeda's murder to develop a network of malicious actions with the aim of, in this election year and without success, "putting Venezuela in a bad light in the international arena," within the framework of the "hybrid war imposed against Venezuela for 25 years."
"And at the same time, the Chilean authorities have a false alibi to avoid their exclusive responsibility for this vile crime, the 'investigation' of which has been of very poor procedural quality," Saab emphasized.
