"The judge handling the case, named Karina Zucconi, has a history of being an accomplice to misogynistic attackers. She already did so in the case of Marianela Rago's femicide. On the other hand, the Venezuelan embassy condemned this incident: "We categorically condemn this incident, in which a young Venezuelan compatriot was premeditatedly kidnapped, drugged, and raped. We demand that the authorities impose exemplary punishment for such a despicable act #YouAreNotAlone," the Venezuelan embassy wrote on social media.
An 18-year-old Venezuelan girl reported having been drugged and raped by a Balvanera merchant, in Argentina, that he had interviewed her and hired her as a salesperson at his medical apparel store.
In this sense, Thaís Campo, the victim's mother, told C5N that on January 23 her daughter attended a job interview and that same day she started working. Once at the scene, the young woman sent her mother a message with the photo of the front of the premises and the exact location information.
During the day, the businessman insistently offered the young woman drinks, until she accepted a glass of water. Minutes later, the young woman began to feel dizzy, so she decided to send a message to her sister informing her of the situation.
"I think the owner of where I work drugged me because I feel dizzy," Thaís's daughter wrote to her sister. His relatives reported the situation to the authorities and moved to the premises. When the police arrived at the site, they found the business closed.
After knocking several times, they broke into force and found the girl on a ladder at the bottom of the store, with a naked torso and under the influence of psychotropics. Next to him, the owner of the business was putting the pants on the victim, for which he was arrested.
The mother reported that "he put a shirt of his," after detailing that her daughter was drugged and barefoot. The victim was transferred to Ramos Mejía Hospital, where the specialists determined the existence of three injuries compatible with a violation "in full bleeding."
The defendant released
The case was left in the hands of Judge Karina Zucconi, who charged the man with the "crime of simple sexual abuse" and released him while awaiting trial, despite having been found in flagrante delicto.
According to the mother, the judge only prohibited the businessman from approaching or contacting the victim, as well as leaving the country, and forced him to appear monthly in court. «He is a rapist who should not be loose, but rather a prisoner awaiting trial. The justice told us that he is free because he has no record," she said.
The decision has already been appealed by the prosecutor in the case, Silvana Russi. Likewise, the victim's lawyer, Pablo Baqué, takes the pertinent steps forward. «We have fully verified the injuries compatible with the rape. They are injuries that leave sequelae such as bites or blows, that is why we say that the simple abuse cover is wrong because there was carnal access, "he told Télam.
The victim, who is under psychological care but does not enjoy police protection, said that she now lives in fear because her attacker has the resume containing all her data.
After knowing the young woman's complaint, Venezuelans living in Argentina, along with social organizations from the southern country, expressed their rejection on the social network Twitter using the hashtag # GarzónViolador, in reference to the merchant's surname, which was also a trend in Venezuela.
In addition, they called a protest for this Thursday at 10:30 in the morning, local time, in front of the defendant's establishment. / With information from La Radio del Sur.
