The two subjects who intended to attack President Nicolás Maduro during the nomination ceremony for his candidacy before the National Electoral Council (CNE) were captured 20 meters from the stage located in the Plaza Diego Ibarra, the attorney general of the Republic, Tarek William Saab.
Saab highlighted this information when offering a press conference in order to provide details about the event detected this Monday at the end of the morning in the surroundings of the square.
In this regard, the Prosecutor explained that Jerry Ostos Perdomo, National Coordinator of Vente Venezuela, and Carlos Eduardo Castillo, a member of the aforementioned organization, confirmed belonging to it.
Likewise, he pointed out that the aforementioned citizens They will be charged before a Control Court with Terrorism jurisdiction, for the crimes of association, attempted assassination, instigation of hatred and illicit possession of a firearm in prohibited places.
Extremist factors
"It is impressive the consecutive chain of events, each one worse than the last, where there has been a desperate attempt to generate violence to provoke destabilizing street actions, which has happened in the first quarter of the year," said the head of the criminal action, referring to the conspiracy plots revealed during the first months of the year.
He said that these are "extremist factors" that have even burned people alive in different years, such as 2014 and 2017, and that, in his opinion, they seem to be trying to trigger a civil war.
Saab, when referring to the event of this Monday, said that they even have audios of conversations between the detained citizens.
"There are audio recordings of them speaking with incredible hatred, that is what draws my attention the most, they capture people who might see someone who is not in line with their political thinking, (…) and the hatred they have, I believe, would lead them to stab that person, to kill them, to lynch them, it is a serious danger, to have an extremist factor like that in this country," explained Saab.
Regarding the audios that the prosecutor claimed to possess, the alleged parties involved can be heard talking about going to the rally, he said.
At 11:30 they are discovered near the stage
The prosecutor continued by reporting that the events occurred in the surroundings of Plaza Diego Ibarra, where the president was going to give his speech after his registration in the CNE.
It was then, at around "11:30 in the morning, that a crowd of agitated people were seen pointing at a subject who was present at the scene and who was allegedly carrying a firearm in his clothes and a banner that could be clearly seen," the prosecutor said.
Later - he said - upon being captured it was possible to detect that he was carrying a 9mm caliber firearm, Pietro Bereta brand, and a 9mm magazine, with a capacity for 15 ammunition, containing 12 ammunition, which was identified as Jerry Ostos Perdomo and, he showed the prosecutor a photograph with María Corina Machado.
The second citizen was located a few minutes later, Carlos Eduardo Castillo, with whom he had had the conversation, and who also possessed a 7.65 mm caliber firearm, Walther brand, with a magazine with a capacity of 8 ammunition and containing 6 bullets.
Interrogated
When questioned by the prosecutors conducting the investigation, they claimed to be members of the political organization Vente Venezuela, which, according to the prosecutor, "once again appears to be linked to attempts to generate violence and attack the integrity of the President of the Republic."
Likewise, the prosecutor showed a photograph showing the weapons seized from the detainees.
He said that the two individuals admitted the incident with "complete shamelessness."
After the event, officials from the Public Ministry and the security forces, Saab stated, have been working throughout the early hours of this Wednesday, carrying out various raids and it is expected that in the next few hours they will be presented before a control court to be charged.
