Connie's letter to Martinez and Hinch

My young and valued managers…: On Saturday, you and your teams opened a new World Series of three games instead of seven in Washington.

That speaks to how well the boys have played and how well you have led. Like the wise decision to send José Urquidy to the mound, when you did not have anyone available from the rotation, my admired AJ You did it based on the fact that José has good experience as a starter on the ball from his native country, Mexico. And for mounting it there, the team won.

Neither Justin Verlander, nor Gerrit Cole, nor Zack Greinke, had managed to dominate the Nátionals like José did, five innings, 17 batters, two hits, four strikeouts, zero runs, zero tickets

I am amazed and excited to enjoy the work of such young managers. You, AJ, just 45 years old, and your Dave, 55. Imagine, when I retired as manager in 1950, I had turned 88, and had been 53 directing in the majors.

BTW, you're AJ for Andrew Joy, but you didn't like your original names. Exactly like my case, imagine, I'm originally Cornelius McGillicuddy. Could there be a more difficult first and last name to pronounce? We also look alike, my dear AJ, in that we were catchers with a batting average of just over 200. Of course, that led us as managers, as has happened with many.

As for you Dave, the Brooklyn native outfielder, 270 hitter, very efficient on defense, it is admirable how you have transformed the Nationals, whose franchise, coming from Montreal, had never appeared in a World Series.

Good luck and hugs to both of you.
