Meléndez, 42, arrived to live his second stage with the Avile team in 2022, when he took over the coordination of the lower divisions and the direction of the reserve team.
Subsequently, he took charge of the first team for the six matches of the Final Phase of the FUTVE League in the last half of that same year, adding three wins and two draws with which Caracas obtained the place to play in the Copa Sudamericana of the following season.
A key man in the club's structure is leaving
While coordinating the lower categories —including leading the Under-21 team in 2024—, he was called upon to take over again as coach of the first team for the remainder of the season, a period in which he faced the group stage of the Copa Libertadores.
During his tenure, the institution highlighted the achievement of four youth titles in the previous two seasons and a qualification for the U-20 Copa Libertadores. His time in charge of the first team during that period concluded at the end of June.
More recently, during the 2025-2026 season, he joined the coaching staff as Fernando Aristeguieta's assistant. After Aristeguieta's departure, he returned as interim head coach in April 2026. In June, Caracas FC announced his contract extension until December; however, the club and the press confirmed the end of his tenure on August 15th with the return of Noel "Chita" Sanvicente.
This is how a key man in the development and training of talents in the Avile structure bids farewell to the institution, in addition to having been the recurring solution for the first team's bench in times of instability and transition.
