The Municipal Police of Libertador retained 10 transport units in the city of Mérida, because its drivers charged the ticket on Wednesday with an increase that was not authorized by the authorities.
The increase unilaterally proposed by the transport sector takes the rate of short passage from Bs 3.500 to 10.000 and the long one from 5.000 to 15.000 Bs for urban routes; and the extra-urban ones - outside the capital jurisdiction - in 20.000 Bs.
The retained units were transferred to the police parking lot, at the order of the National Institute of Land Transportation (Intt), the body that will apply sanctions for noncompliance with Official Gazette No. 41.805, which establishes the current cost of the passage.
This lack of agreement between the transporters and the municipal authorities of the city of Mérida, who met to mediate with the representation of the Ministry of the Popular Power for Transport, without achieving a solution, forced most of the drivers to keep the units until they decree the increase. Therefore, the Merideños had to walk long distances to get around.
They ensure that there is no unemployment
In this sense, Eladio Vergara, president of the La Otra Banda line reported that very few units are providing service, while clarifying that it is not a transport stoppage. "We cannot keep charging 3.500 bolivars."
He indicated that they are waiting for the official gazette that establishes the increase in the passage and pointed out that those who are working, have not been denied access to supply fuel.
Meanwhile, Tromerca and the university route provided as a contingency plan, the transfer of citizenship through the various routes of the city of Merida, which alleviated the ordeal that for two days has burdened users of the public transport service in the capital of the Andean entity.
