Halloween, the upcoming 1 vs 4 asymmetrical stealth horror video game developed by IllFonic based on the popular horror franchise starring the iconic Michael Myers, has revealed new details about its multiplayer during the most recent edition of PAX East, where attendees were able to enjoy a substantial demo.
The game was announced last year and is scheduled for release in September 2026.
The new blog post IllFonic details the features of Halloween's multiplayer mode. In this experience, players can choose between two roles: they can step into the shoes of the methodical killer Michael Myers and hunt down his victims, or they can assume the role of a resident trying to save themselves and their neighbors from the boogeyman.
When playing as the villain in Halloween's multiplayer mode, players must murder all the town's residents; however, there are some special targets that must be eliminated to earn better rewards.
Michael Myers possesses abilities that allow him to locate, terrorize, and execute civilians. His Killer Sense allows him to be more aware of his surroundings and the proximity of others. The character can increase his Stalking skill to identify and track targets or to unlock more execution options.
Then there's Shapeshift, an ability that amplifies the character's mobility, allowing Michael to move stealthily through the shadows. There's also Shape Boost, which gives the character the ability to launch himself forward with explosive force. However, Shapeshift only works in the dark, out of a civilian's field of vision.
The residents of Halloween will also have ways to survive
The game not only gives players the chance to hunt like the villain, but also provides them with the tools to survive as a civilian. The civilian's role is to find other Haddonfield residents and guide them to safety. Each civilian has been designed with unique stats, special traits, and a distinctive personality.
As you explore, civilians will reveal new points of interest, resident non-player characters (NPCs), containers of loot, hiding places, telephones, potential escape routes, and more. Talking to residents will also provide you with additional tools, such as requesting police backup, directions to safe hiding places, or companions to help you escape the monster.
The lootable containers in Halloween's multiplayer mode hold weapons, distractions, and key items that will help players survive. Furthermore, even after death, civilians can help others by returning as "a sheriff's deputy or the relentless Dr. Loomis." The developers also stated, "While he cannot be killed, with enough community resistance, the right equipment, and plenty of manpower, he can be stopped and sent back to Smith's Grove Sanitarium."
