Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater won't have its multiplayer mode available at launch. But that's not the only bad news… There won't be any cross-play either.
As mentioned on the official Metal Gear account at X The game won't have multiplayer on release day, but that wasn't the only bad news, as it was announced that PC, PlayStation and Xbox users won't be able to play with each other.
This news didn't go down well with those awaiting the game's release. Criticisms immediately followed. In some comments, players asserted that this would "kill the game," as with current prices and a lack of interest in growing the community, it would be quite difficult to maintain the game.
Fox Hunt had raised expectations in some Metal Gear Solid fans.
With the announcement of Fox Hunt, some fans were excited, recalling the online mode in Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which ran for four years, from 4 to 2008. This mode was quite popular at the time, and subsequent games have been expected to offer something similar. However, any possible similarity to this game disappeared when the director of Fox Hunt, Yu Sahara, who has worked on several Metal Gear titles, denied the game.
«When we say 'Metal Gear multiplayer,' a lot of fans probably think of Metal Gear Online, but Fox Hunt will be its own kind of new mode. We really appreciate all the MGO fans who have always wanted to see it return, but the landscape of multiplayer games has changed a lot since MGO. It took a lot of careful consideration to think about what a new online mode should look like.»
Metal Gear Solid Delta will hit stores on August 28, 2025 for PC, Xbox Series, and PlayStation 5, with the game arriving around fall.
