A bloc of 28 countries, including China, Russia, Egypt, and Iran, urged the international community on Thursday to end unilateral coercive measures. The signatory governments stated that these practices blatantly interfere in the internal affairs of sovereign states and undermine the foundations of multilateralism.
History has shown that unilateral coercive measures are a major source of international turbulence and disorder, with developing countries and their people continuing to bear the brunt of such actions, said China's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Fu Cong, in a joint statement submitted to the Third Committee of the General Assembly.
Global humanitarian and economic impact
Secondary sanctions and overreaching enforcement of regulations have exacerbated existing humanitarian and economic challenges. The Chinese diplomat warned that these actions directly threaten global food, energy, and financial security.
The increasing use of tariffs as a tool of unilateral coercion further politicized economic and trade issues. This dynamic undermined the multilateral trading system, disrupted global industrial and supply chains, and hampered the efforts of affected states to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, he added.
Systematic violation of human rights
Unilateral coercive measures seriously violate fundamental human rights, such as the rights to life, health, development, and education. This situation prevents the populations of the affected countries from effectively exercising these essential rights.
Given this situation, the bloc demanded that a small group of Western nations heed the legitimate demands of the international community. The signatory countries called for compliance with their commitments to respect the Charter of the United Nations and international law, by immediately, unconditionally, and completely lifting all unilateral coercive measures, Fu stated.
The statement concluded with a direct appeal: "We also call upon Member States, the UN system, and other international organizations to jointly oppose such illegal practices and help the affected countries to alleviate their plight."

The governments and powerful vested interests of the countries that resort to these unilateral measures against other countries, organizations, and various sectors and individuals will only dismantle this practice when the vast majority of those affected, united and organized, take drastic political, economic, financial, industrial, commercial, territorial, and transportation countermeasures, among others. This is in order to fight, resist, and attack where they can have the greatest impact on the global corporatocracy, which dictates these 'policies' to these dominated ruling classes. Examples exist, such as China with its rare earth elements, its acquisition of soybeans from other countries without restrictions; and certain decisions by northern parliaments against trade with companies producing in areas of illegal occupation, ethnic cleansing, and massacres.
