They are building a climate finance program in Venezuela

The aim is to coordinate intersectoral programs and projects focused on mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change.

Venezuela began the collective construction of its first Country Program and Climate Financing Plan for the Green Climate Fund in Caracas on Thursday, October 1, through a technical and institutional workshop that brought together ministries, universities and affiliated entities, the Ministry for Ecosocialism reported.

The event aims to formulate a national strategy that articulates intersectoral programs and projects aimed at mitigating and adapting to the effects of climate change, with an emphasis on strengthening national capacities to access the resources of the Green Climate Fund.

Addressing climate mitigation and adaptation needs

The Minister for Ecosocialism, Nelson Rodríguez, highlighted the participation of various institutions and noted that the meeting will allow progress on a portfolio of projects from ministries and public entities to address climate mitigation and adaptation needs.

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) is supporting the Ministry and the National Green Climate Fund Committee in designing this strategy. The cooperation between the two institutions spans 15 years of work in environmental remediation, capacity building, climate change, and biodiversity protection.

The UNDP Resident Representative, Luis Francisco Thais, noted that the workshop constitutes a first step towards consolidating a multi-sectoral policy and establishing priorities that will allow the development of long-range projects to finance mitigation actions against climate change.
