Venezuelan researchers are making progress in developing a skin regeneration therapy based on mesenchymal stromal cells obtained from hair follicles, as reported by the Center for Regenerative Medicine of the Venezuelan Institute for Scientific Research (IVIC).
This less invasive and easily accessible alternative seeks to accelerate healing and contribute to the treatment of burns and complex skin lesions, according to a press release from the organization.
The research, led by Dr. Bélgica Molina, is in the standardization phase in animal models, a fundamental step to evaluate its safety and efficacy before planning future clinical protocols.
"The work focuses on a theoretical model in experimental animals, applying mesenchymal stromal cells as a therapy for the regeneration of these wounds. These cells are a source of stem cells, an alternative among many other cells that has the advantage of being more easily accessible, less painful, and less invasive," the doctor highlighted.
