From the Plaza Bolívar in Caracas, the President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro Moros, celebrated the participation of the Venezuelan people in the consultative process carried out this Sunday in defense of Guayana Esequiba.
"The referendum was called for a national cause, we have taken the first steps of a new historical stage to fight for what is ours, to recover what the liberators left us, and the Venezuelan people spoke loud and clear, and this victory is of the people of Venezuela, without discrimination, without partisanship," said President Maduro.
He then congratulated the deputies of the National Assembly, "for pointing the way amidst the diversity of the Assembly. They have pointed the way," he said, recalling that the consultation was promoted from within the National Assembly so that it was the People who would decide the course of action in the face of the insolence of the Guyanese government.
"We have fulfilled our promise, the referendum was held and it has been a complete success for our country and our democracy. An overwhelming victory for the YES vote throughout Venezuela, with a significant level of participation," the head of state stressed. "This victory belongs to all the people of Venezuela, without discrimination or partisanship," he added.
He then congratulated all the social movements, the youth, workers, musicians, artists, athletes, sportsmen, community members, street leaders, communities and Bolívar-Chávez Battle Units, governors, mayors and sectors of the country who joined to this historic day in defense of the Essequibo territory.
Likewise, he congratulated the people of Venezuela for their participation, the Republic Plan and the National Electoral Council for the development of an election day in which all the people expressed themselves in peace. Venezuela has a transparent and reliable electoral system!, he exalted.
The President thanked the Venezuela Toda Campaign Command for their dedication and commitment to achieving the triumph of this campaign. He named them one by one: "hard-working, dedicated people. I thank them for their constant work.
They tried to prevent the consultation
He highlighted the work carried out by the Vice President of the Republic, Delcy Rodríguez and her team in their participation in the International Judicial Court.
"They put in an equal bill, Exxon Mobil, the US Government to stop and sabotage the referendum, an equal bill to try to buy politicians and curtail the right of the people to hold this consultative referendum, based on the National Constitution, as well as other plans that we managed to stop in time and that we will comment on later," he commented.
Maduro recalled the stages of the evolution of the controversy over the Guayana conflict: the formation of the territory, with the Constituent Congress of 1811; the dispossession, crowned with the fraudulent Paris Award in 1822. "But in 1966, national consciousness began to awaken and the Geneva Agreement award was signed, which was certainly the question with the most votes in today's referendum," he commented.
He went on to highlight the period dedicated to the conspiracy to create the state of Guyana up to the present, characterized by the Exxon Mobil conspiracy, "the profits of this company from a well amount to 22 billion dollars and the Guyanese state only received 3 billion dollars. They sold their soul to Exxon Mobil," he commented.
«It was necessary to take a leap to begin a new stage, in the full exercise of national sovereignty, of the National Constitution. We have taken the first steps on the path of national unity, uniting everything that can be united for the Homeland, for the future of Venezuela, to fight for our country and at this moment to fight for our Essequibo, to fight for peace»
In this context, he praised the participation and support of the Venezuelan opposition that joined the referendum. "I salute the bravery, courage and patriotism of the leaders of the opposition political parties, we extend our hand to them and tell them that this victory also belongs to you," said the president.
Maduro also highlighted the national unity that took place in defense of the country. "Today there are no winners or losers, the only winner is the sovereignty of Venezuela and the losers are Exxon, the government of Guyana and the American empire. The awakening of a people, of consciousness, won and we should be proud of that, because we are writing a new history," he said.
High level of national consciousness
"We must have the nerve to call a referendum on such complex and difficult issues, which merited study and debate; and the fact that our people have responded with this level of education, awareness, and preparation is a testament to the high level of preparation and patriotic awareness that they possess." He also added that this campaign forced us to put aside hatred and division.
"This is the seventh referendum that has been called in the country," said the head of state.
"The issue of the Essequibo region is no longer just a matter for specialists, who are necessary and we have the best, but is now an issue that belongs to all the people of Venezuela," he said after thanking each of the sectors that participated in the election day.
