The prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC), Karim Khan, notified the National Government of the three-month extension so that it can respond to the accusations of alleged cases of human rights violations.
In the report sent by the CPI, the official indicated the reasons why they made this decision. "In a spirit of cooperation, dialogue and fairness, the prosecutor also agreed to grant Venezuela an extension, until April 16, 2022."
He stressed that this new term was taken because the initial date expired last Sunday. "This extension is appropriate and justified due to various circumstances, which must be considered exceptional."
In the letter they establish that the time they extended will serve to specify the agenda for a new visit by prosecutor Karim Khan to the Bolivarian nation, in addition to "engage in a meaningful dialogue with the Government of Venezuela on admissibility issues with a view to evaluating the scope and the need to resort to possible procedures”.
