Pino Arlacchi was Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Executive Director of UNODC, the United Nations program against drugs and crime. During his tenure, he visited several Latin American countries where drug trafficking is a serious problem. None of those countries is Venezuela.
With these memories, Arlacchi begins his article entitled "The Great Deception Against Venezuela: Oil Geopolitics Disguised as a War on Drugs", in which he explains how he had to visit Colombia, Bolivia, Peru and Brazil, but never came to Venezuela because it was not necessary, as the country's collaboration against this scourge was exemplary.
"The Venezuelan government's cooperation in the fight against drug trafficking was one of the best in South America, comparable only to Cuba's impeccable record," the former UN official said in an article shared on social media by Executive Vice President Delcy Rodríguez.
For this reason, the diplomat explained that the US government's accusations against Caracas, "in Trump's delusional narrative of 'Venezuela as a narco-state,' sound like a geopolitically motivated slander."
In this regard, Arlacchi comments in his extensive article on the most recent results of the United Nations 2025 reports, which, he says, "dismantle piece by piece the geopolitical fabrication built around the 'Cartel of the Suns,' an entity as legendary as the Loch Ness Monster."
He adds that such an invention is only intended to "justify sanctions, embargoes, and threats of military intervention against a country that, coincidentally, sits on one of the largest oil reserves on the planet."
UN report is clear
Arlacchi made it clear that the 2025 UN report should shame those who have constructed the rhetoric that demonizes Venezuela, as it reveals that "only 5% of Colombian drugs transit through Venezuela."
He explained that the UN document "simply confirms the 30 previous annual reports, which omit Venezuelan drug trafficking because it doesn't exist."
“To put this figure into perspective: in 2018, while 210 tons of cocaine transited through Venezuela, Colombia produced or sold 2.370 tons (ten times more) and Guatemala, 1.400 tons,” he explains in the article.
Thus, the diplomat emphasizes the 1.400 tons of drugs circulating through Guatemala, "but no one talks about it because Guatemala has historically had a shortage—it produces 0,01% of the world's total—of the only artificial drug that interests Trump: oil."
The former UN official describes the fanciful Cartel of the Suns as a "Hollywood fiction," not mentioned in the report of the world's leading anti-drug organization, nor in the documents of any European agency, nor in almost any other anti-crime agency on the planet.
It also reveals Washington's double standards in focusing attention on Venezuela, while drug trafficking thrives in nations subservient to the US, such as Ecuador, where "57% of the banana containers that leave Guayaquil and arrive in Antwerp are loaded with cocaine."
He recalled that "European authorities seized 13 tons of cocaine from a single Spanish ship, originating from Ecuadorian ports controlled by companies protected by Ecuadorian government officials."
The real drug trafficking routes
While Trump points to Venezuela and the alleged Cartel of the Suns, Arlacchi maintains that it all appears to be a strategy to "protect" the real drug trafficking routes, which are located on the Pacific coast.
“Colombia produces more than 70% of the world's cocaine. Peru and Bolivia account for most of the remaining 30%. The logical routes to reach the US and European markets are the Pacific to Asia, the Eastern Caribbean to Europe, and, by land, Central America to the United States,” he explains.
As is logical to assume, Venezuela, at the other end of the spectrum of major drug producers, faces a geographical disadvantage in being a focal point for drug trafficking. "Criminal logistics make Venezuela a marginal player in the vast international drug trafficking landscape," he determined.
He concluded his article by stating that it is US President Donald Trump who deserves an international reward for a very specific crime: "systematic slander against a sovereign state in order to seize its oil resources."
In addition to being a former UN official and politician, Pino Arlacchi is an Italian sociologist renowned worldwide for his studies and essays on the Mafia and its business dealings around the world.

What is strange about this plot of the current President of the United States, is that within his country, so far they have not stopped any cartel or mafia that traffics and distributes drugs: Cocaine, Marijuana, Fentanyl, Heroin, etc. However, they justify this truth with the lie about the fight against drug traffickers, who are only in South America, in countries like Mexico and Venezuela. They do not include Colombia, how strange with nine (9) military bases imposed by the USA to combat drug trafficking. But Colombia produces 70% of the world's cocaine, and Venezuela does not appear in those statistics. It strikes me that Colombia has not been sanctioned and blockaded like our country. Could it be that the Trump government does not like that we have overcome their sanctions and have become a world reference in endogenous development along with Russia?
THE TRUTH IS AS IT IS, EVEN IF YOU THINK OF IT THE OTHER WAY AROUND. THE BIG BUSINESSES OF THE EVIL EMPIRE ARE WEAPONS, DRUGS, AND THE PHARMACEUTICAL INDUSTRY. THOSE WHO SELL AND BUY DRUGS IN THE UNITED AMERICAS NEVER GO TO PRISON. THEREFORE, THERE IS A NARCO-STATE.
The only president in the world who is a vulgar convict and supported by ex-convicts accused and removed from office by corruption and drug traffickers, what greatness
When I open Últimas NoticiasI am always confident because seriousness is essential when dealing with the news.
I always look for verifiable information and Últimas Noticias It is a good news program because of its seriousness in presenting everything related to current issues.
This explanation by the former UN official is very good, but the plot of the cartel of the suns is a distraction by Donald Trump, first to try to cover up his personal scandals for the promiscuous life he has led, to allow the entry of a greater amount of drugs through the Pacific and to sing the chorus to Guyana in its intentions to strip us of our Guyana, the world knows that in Venezuela no type of drugs are produced or manufactured, no type of trafficking is trafficked, but it does fight with force. and furthermore, the United States is not going to risk a long and attritional war so close to its borders, which is minutes away from a good missile that would cause physical and moral damage if the war reaches its land, this plot of the surgical extraction operation that lasts a few minutes, has no other name than "Shit" in the minds of this irresponsible opposition with María Corina Machado, at the head.
Trump calls the Venezuelan government a criminal, and he is the only president prosecuted and sentenced for illegal conduct. In my opinion, this deployment in the Caribbean is a strategy to transport drugs, which of course allows for free movement in the Caribbean.
