"Today, Venezuela, on behalf of the Group of Friends of the UN Charter, demanded an immediate ceasefire in Gaza by Israel and its allies protecting it. The Assembly overwhelmingly decided to halt the massacre against the Palestinian people," the Ambassador posted alongside a video showing part of his address to the plenary session.
"More than two months have passed since the beginning of this lamentable spiral of violence and destruction, which has caused the deaths of thousands of innocent civilians, especially women and children, including more than 100 humanitarian and UN personnel, as well as the destruction of thousands of homes in the Gaza Strip," Moncada lamented.
He stressed that during these two months, as described by the secretary of the United Nations Organization, the population of Palestine has experienced hell on earth and no place is safe for the civilian population in Gasa due to the cruel operations of the Israeli forces.
"The refugee camps housing more than 1.3 million Palestinian civilians, out of the more than 1.9 million who have been forcibly displaced in recent months, have been the target of repeated attacks," he said.
He reported that the Commissioner General of UNRWA (United Nations Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Middle East) has said that the UN flag no longer offers protection. Likewise, schools and hospitals suffer constant attacks and all lives are at risk.
"International humanitarian law has been completely trampled," Moncada warned on behalf of the Group of Friends of the UN Charter.
