Russia will strengthen cooperation with Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua

Russia will strengthen its strategic cooperation with Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua in "all areas" including the military-technical one, declared this Wednesday the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergei Lavrov, during a speech in the Russian Parliament, reported agencies.

"As for Cuba, Nicaragua and Venezuela, we have very close relations and strategic cooperation in all areas: in the economy, culture, education and military-technical cooperation," said the head of Russian diplomacy.

Lavrov said that during recent talks with the leaders of the three countries, Russian President Vladimir Putin agreed to further strengthen ties with Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, EFE reports.

"During President Putin's recent telephone conversations with his colleagues from these three states, which are very close and friendly to us, they agreed to explore new ways to deepen our strategic partnership in all spheres without exception," Lavrov said in a statement to the State Duma (the lower house of the Russian parliament).

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro held a telephone conversation with his Russian counterpart on Thursday in which he expressed his rejection of "campaigns of provocation and manipulation against Russia."

Putin held talks with Cuban leader Miguel Díaz-Canel on Monday amid heightened tensions with the United States.

The leaders discussed bilateral cooperation, including the help in the fight against covid-19 that Moscow provides to Havana.
