“Meeting for a Global Social Alternative” to be held in Caracas

The activity called by the ALBA-TCP seeks to shield the Latin American and Caribbean regions against imperial attacks

Members of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-People's Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP) and the Simón Bolívar Institute (ISB) will hold a "Meeting for a Global Social Alternative" in Caracas, Venezuela, a space to promote unity and the design of an agenda that will protect Latin American and Caribbean regions against the imperialist attacks of this new era.

This is detailed in a press release from ALBA-TCP, which reported that the meeting will take place on April 18, 19 and 20. The event will bring together member countries of the bloc, leaders and social movements from the region in activities and work meetings that will take place at the Meliá Hotel in the Venezuelan capital.

On Thursday, April 18, the day begins with a cultural event and welcome words by the executive secretary of ALBA, Jorge Arreaza.

Subsequently, the seminars Dangers and threats to humanity will be held; The decadent civilization; One imperialism, one enemy; and The need for a common project is detailed.

Among the speakers are intellectuals and social leaders such as Atilio Borón (Argentina), Rania Khalek (USA/Lebanon), Juan Carlos Monedero (Spain), Carlos Rosero (Colombia), Tebogo Phadu (South Africa), Marta Martín (Spain), Abel Prieto (Cuba), Messilene Gorete (Brazil), among others.

On April 19, the meeting will focus on two outstanding debates: The principle of Unity as a transformative element, led by the executive secretary of the Alliance, Jorge Arreaza; and Hyperimperialism and a Global Social Alternative, directed by Vijay Prashad of the Tricontinental Institute for Social Research.

On Friday, ALBA-TCP members, ISB and leaders of social movements will make calls for solidarity with Palestine, Cuba, Haiti and Jorge Glass, leader and former vice president of Ecuador.

Continuing with the agenda, on Saturday the 20th, starting at 9:00 in the morning, the Anti-imperialist Youth Seminar in struggle and for solidarity will be held.

The Meeting for a Global Social Alternative will be broadcast on all ALBA-TCP social networks, consistent with the Alliance's vision of fully connecting with the people.

Likewise, this debate is essential to design strategies that serve to combat the new and dangerous form of intervention of US imperialism in the region, which intensifies the so-called sanctions against Venezuela and other brother countries in the world.

The Executive Secretariat of ALBA-TCP and the Simón Bolívar Institute affirm that these days of debate and discussion have the purpose of proposing an agenda of concrete actions that the people could implement to confront imperialism and the unsustainable economic and social model that it advocates. , and thus find points of unity that can become collective solutions to the real problems of the people and the construction of a new civilizing model.
