The Minister of People's Power for Communication and Information, Freddy Ñañez, proposed to the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America - People's Trade Treaty (ALBA-TCP), the creation of an alliance to generate a joint communication policy that allows not only to show on a daily basis the differences and points of unification of the economic, political and social proposals, but also to facilitate the dismantling of fake news that seek to promote messages of hate, creating "preludes to military invasions and economic aggressions."
At the meeting of High Authorities of the Communication and Information Area of ALBA-TCP, Minister Ñañez said that it is necessary to proceed to the articulation of state and public spaces to permanently convene the political debate, to make the defense in a timely manner that corresponds to the media sieges of the large corporations that obey the imperial projects of the United States and the contempt of old Europe.
«The cultural riches, social experiences, history and vocation for the future that our transformation projects have are necessary. These challenges that have occurred in the field of traditional mass media are now changing and presenting new questions in the face of the emergence of social networks, a phenomenon that 10 years ago the world celebrated as the panacea of absolute freedom and that over the years in the face of controversial events, social networks have been revealing their true character» - he added.
He went on to say that there must be an important debate at a social, political and technical level, within the framework of democratic health and the sovereignty of countries, on this new form of “digital authoritarianism”, where social networks operate as real actors of espionage and data theft; in addition to being interventionists in the opinion and development of communications that must always take place.
Ñañez emphasized that "today, social networks have taken upon themselves the right to censor and stigmatize what is not pertinent to the corporate project, that is, what is not pertinent to the American empire. Therefore, while they provide an extraordinary opportunity to articulate ourselves and delve into the terrain of the battle of ideas, we must also think in terms of the State of Government and democracy that social networks imply. We have seen with astonishment how social networks behave like super-governments, using cyberspace, deciding who to silence and who to give the floor to, and against whom to launch smear campaigns."
He recalled that recently President Nicolás Maduro was censored from his Facebook account for spreading a Venezuelan-engineered retroviral called Carvativir and previously also for spreading a Venezuelan-engineered medical treatment with the R10 molecule. It calls powerfully that at a time when the world is experiencing a terrible pandemic, where solutions and alternatives are urgent, an algorithm from Facebook and social networks exclusively pursue all messages that have to do with solutions and alternatives for our countries in the face of this pandemic.
Minister Freddy Ñañez stressed that "in the face of this digital authorism that freely promotes hate campaigns, fake news, manipulation of public opinions and that also generates a state of vulnerability in our populations, it is then necessary to update the thinking, philosophies and what corresponds to our legal frameworks to continue building communication. Today it is proven that there are no small countries, that we are all part of this same ship that is planet Earth and we have something to contribute to the inexorable challenges that humanity has with respect to climate change and the need to build more just societies."
"Today the world requires innovative responses and they will not come from the models of capitalism or its neoliberal version, which have demonstrated their incompetence when it comes to facing major problems and have revealed their true face, which is the face of contempt for the most vulnerable sectors, contempt for the peoples of the world," said the Minister for Communication and Information.
