Court agreed arrest warrant against fugitive Antonio Ledezma

Antonio Ledezma called for civil disobedience and a military insurrection in the country.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, announced on Monday that an arrest warrant had been issued against the fugitive from justice, Antonio Ledezma, for his statements that aim to "call for death" and confrontation between Venezuelans.

"We have requested an arrest warrant against Antonio Ledezma for the crimes of treason, conspiracy, incitement to commit crimes and association," the prosecutor said at a press conference.

Similarly, he pointed out that to advance the proceedings, prosecutors 67 and 74 Nationals were appointed with full jurisdiction and against organized crime.

At the press conference, he indicated that technical expertise is being carried out "in order to request an arrest warrant against him."

"In addition, Spain will again request his extradition," the Attorney General added.

Recently, Ledezma assured a foreign media outlet that opposition member María Corina Machado will seek to provoke civil disobedience and a military insurrection in the country.

"The only way to be able to carry out the registration of a woman (María Corina Machado) who is being vetoed by the regime is by starting civil disobedience," were the statements made by Ledezma.

In this regard, the Attorney General asserted that these statements only seek to "call for death, for Venezuelans to kill each other, and for them to enjoy this action from abroad, totally outside the law."

"It is a call to kill, no matter if there are children. That is what they want to repeat now. They are repeating crimes to show that they are democrats," he said.

With these statements, William Saab pointed out that "the Public Prosecutor's Office will act to prevent any incident that involves bloodshed in the country."

"The Venezuelan authorities have avoided a complete collapse. No one abroad should have impunity. We hope that the Spanish authorities will speak out and respect international laws," stressed William Saab.

On the other hand, the Attorney General pointed out that in the statements Ledezma - who has been a fugitive since 2017 when he left the country while he was serving the house arrest measure - ratified his participation in destabilizing actions such as La Salida in 2014.

He recalled the past actions of spokesmen and actors of the national right, who have tried to destabilize the country and cause the departure of the Revolutionary Government.

"Venezuela is the only country on earth that has been engaged in this mechanism of destabilization for decades, and it never stops," he said.

In this sense, he recalled the violent events from 2002 to 2017, as well as the unilateral coercive measures that generate an unpleasant climate for all Venezuelans.
