More than 30 million cyber attacks have been received by Venezuelan platforms per minute without rest from last July 28 until this weekend, said the Sectoral Vice President for Science, Technology, Education and Health, Gabriela Jiménez this Monday at the Council of Security of the Nation and State.
When presenting a detailed report on the continued cyber attack that the country has received since the presidential elections, the Sectoral Vice President of Education, Health, Science and Technology, Gabriela Jiménez, stated that 25 institutions have been mostly affected by cyber attacks and 40 are in investigation.
"Among the cyberattacks, we can see that 65% were denial-of-service attacks, affecting the servers of state institutions and international links," he specified, explaining that this affects servers, while 17% of the attacks involve information theft associated with emails containing malicious software, route hijacking, DNS expansion, and deconfiguration of state websites and portals, he noted.
He added that over the weekend the hijacking of Cantv IPs was observed to cause the servers to collapse.
All platforms have been attacked
"All state platforms have been attacked in multiple ways," said the head of Science and Technology when presenting the report, highlighting the National Income System (SNI) as one of the affected systems, which received 4 million attacks per hour.
During his intervention he explained that recognized international Cyber Security platforms such as Netscout report that the Venezuelan state has been one of the most affected countries during cyber attacks between July and August. These events are recorded on international cybersecurity platforms such as NETSCOUT and Kaspersky, which showed an increase in data trafficking to Venezuela, the day after the elections, which has led Venezuela to be the most attacked country in Latin America between July and August. .
In this sense, he highlighted that the volume, level of sophistication, incidence and duration of the attacks demonstrate a great installed technological and financial capacity.
Most cyber attacks come from the United States
Regarding the origin of the attacks, he specified that 98% come from farm services with desktop computers and less than 2% from mobile technological platforms.
Likewise, Jiménez specified in his report that, when analyzing the source of these attacks against platforms in Venezuela, the first country from which they have been launched is the United States.
“In addition to these attacks, this has been simultaneously linked to the use of social networks where they begin to generate matrices of media cyber attacks,” he said and added that although “90% of the attacks have not been carried out, they nevertheless generate matrices of fear”, highlighting that these affect the psyche of Venezuelans through social networks and generate a negative matrix against the country.
For all the above, at the close of the report it was recommended the creation of a National Council of Cyber Security to strengthen technological platforms.
