Far-right political leader María Corina Machado announced that she has decided to minimize her public appearances and go underground after details were revealed of the violent plans she promoted after ignoring the results of last Sunday's presidential election, which re-elected Nicolás Maduro as president.
Machado's decision was made public in a letter published by the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal, in which he says he wrote the letter "from hiding" and "fearing for his life."
The announcement by the extremist leader comes just after the capture of the Voluntad Popular party politician, Freddy Superlano, a former opposition deputy, who was discovered promoting and organizing violent actions against the national government and against public and private property. .
This Thursday, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, said that after Superlano's arrest, new elements are becoming known that could lead to new arrests of people involved in the violent acts.
Saab mentioned that Superlano "is providing important elements to identify larger groups, apart from Lester Toledo, that have participated in the attack on the National Electoral Council's data update system."
Machado, who ordered his followers to protest and stay in the streets "with their children and their elders," said in the letter sent to The Wall Street Journal that most of his team "is in hiding."
