The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, and his counterpart from Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, agreed this Friday to highlight that the visit of the Venezuelan president to the city of Baku will promote the development of bilateral ties.
The leaders spoke by videoconference, as a result of suspicious results in the covid-19 tests carried out on members of the Venezuelan delegation, a fact that the Venezuelan head of state regretted.
"I was very eager to hold a conversation on multilateral and bilateral issues," Maduro said.
In this regard, the president of Azerbaijan pointed out that, despite the current situation among the Venezuelan delegation, "this online meeting will also be beneficial for us."
Alliances
The Venezuelan head of state highlighted the importance of strengthening bilateral alliances, while positively assessing the strength of their ties in the multilateral arena, especially within the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM).
In this regard, he confirmed that the president of the National Assembly, Jorge Rodríguez, will be present at the NAM parliamentary session to be held at the end of the month in Baku.
“We must make an effort to further elevate our bilateral relations. At the multilateral level, we collaborate very well, in the Non-Aligned Movement we have had a positive position and constructive work”, added Maduro.
Likewise, he welcomed the permanence of the rotating presidency of Azerbaijan in the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) for another year.
Economic cooperation
Both presidents evaluated the possibility of expanding economic and business cooperation, as well as promoting negotiations on investment projects or joint ventures.
The dialogue also addressed the activities of both nations within the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries and its allies (OPEC+).
In this regard, the President of Azerbaijan highlighted the good negotiations in the hydrocarbons sector through OPEC+, which in his opinion demonstrate "that common interests can serve to solve problems."
