The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, announced that on January 10, after being sworn in before the National Assembly, he will issue a decree for the creation of a commission to advance the development of a reform to our constitution.
During the event where rreceived notification from the AN At the beginning of the new session period 2025-2026, the head of State highlighted that the objective of this reform to the Magna Carta is to define the development model that will govern Venezuela for the next 30 years.
In addition, these changes will also seek to democratize Venezuela's political and social life as much as possible. "We want to transform this State into a truly democratic one, of the people, for the people and with the people. A constitutional reform that achieves harmony, the unification of Venezuela around a common project, a project of consensus," he emphasized.
Likewise, Maduro He asked the International University of Communication (UICOM) and the School of Planning to prepare proposals for men and women suitable for forming the commission that will advance the development of constitutional reform.
Likewise, the president indicated that the debate for the constitutional reform will take place within the National Assembly. "On this occasion, this constitutional reform will have to take place within the National Assembly, during this fifth year of his administration. The Assembly will be the epicenter of a debate that has to reach and move the democratic fibers," he said.
Right to defense
On the other hand, the president assured that Venezuela, like any country in the world, has the right to denounce coup attempts, threats against its sovereignty and above all to respond in its defense.
"The State and the Venezuelan people have the right to legitimate defense against a coup d'état announced on social media," he said, while reiterating the complaint about the capture in our territory of 125 mercenaries of different nationalities who intended to carry out terrorist actions in our territory.
"I tell the whole world to first find out what is happening in Venezuela. There is a call here for a coup d'état, for a civil war. We will never sit back and do nothing. We already have the experience that we lived through on April 11, 2002, which we denounced with evidence. Every April 11 will have its 13th, but now I am sure that the 13th will come before the 11th," he emphasized.
In this vein, the President called on the Minister of Defense, G/J Vladimir Padrino López, regarding the activation of the Steering Body for the Comprehensive Defense of the Nation (ODDI), to draft and present to the AN a special bill for the operation of the ODDI.

The head of state also pointed out that the economic recovery in the country is already a palpable reality that came hand in hand with the political stability that was established in Venezuela after the election of a new National Assembly in 2020.
