The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, received this Wednesday the Notification of the beginning of the ordinary legislative session for the period 2025-2026 by the board of directors of the National Assembly.
"This National Assembly is entering its fifth year. This year we have great democratic challenges. It is the year of the most important democratic explosion in history," because this year there will be nine elections, in which the people will once again express their freedom and independence.
"I believe that Venezuelan institutions have matured to a very high level and the vast majority of our people have achieved a very high level of maturity to understand the world we are living in," he said.
Maduro, who reaffirmed his government's commitment to peace as the nation's most precious asset, said "we are willing to defend peace, which is to defend the constitutional rights of the people in harmony, in society."
In his speech, the president recalled when Julio Borges led the most destructive violent action in decades, the guarimbas of 2017.
"There were 120 days of organized, sustained violence, which forced the activation of a constitutional mechanism, such as convening the original Constituent Power, which allowed the balance of power through the election of the National Constituent Assembly in 2017, which saved the Republic, saved peace, brought harmony and defeated the extremists."
He condemned the fact that the opposition used the political capital it had in 2015 to cause harm and, above all, to enrich the main leaders of the far-right oligarchy.
"Unfortunately, the political leadership of that opposition did not know how to manage the power that the people gave them with their vote. They did the opposite of what they offered, and with that power they always let themselves be carried away by the most extremist minds. Dependent on the American mandate, they have believed that they have reached the moment of the definitive defeat of the Bolivarian Revolution, which we bravely carried forward," he said.
He also highlighted that after the self-appointment of Juan Guaidó, who carried out a coup against the opposition on January 23, 2019, "the macabre and failed attempt by the extremists began." That day, from the balcony of the town, he told the country that it was a coup d'état to attempt an intervention in Venezuela.
The head of state also warned that the opposition living abroad is planning terrorist acts against the country. “They are bordering on madness and are harming their own voters and the country as well,” he said.
In this regard, he called for unity to maintain peace in Venezuela.
The business of fascists
He pointed out that for the fascists of the Venezuelan opposition, conspiracy and extremism is a lucrative business. “Conspiracy, opposition and fascist extremism are big business for these characters.”
In this regard, he denounced that opposition extremists such as David Smolansky and Miguel Pizarro obtained funds from the outgoing United States government for what they call "cooperation projects," and Antonio Ledezma also obtained resources from a secret fund in the coffers of Javier Milei's government.
He rejected the possibility of a new Guaidó and a decadent new Lima Group and warned about the the formation of “a true Sodom and Gomorrah, a museum of terror” made up of pedophiles, corrupt people, bandits and traitors.
“Enough of interventionism, enough of extremism,” said Maduro, who recalled that the Lima Group brought together 25 countries of “governments dragged into the government of the United States,” who even approved military intervention against Venezuela and the reactivation of the Inter-American Treaty of Reciprocal Assistance (TIAR).
