The President of the Republic, Nicolás Maduro, highlighted this Thursday the anti-imperialist character of Commander Hugo Chávez to confront the attacks of the right, supported by the United States government.
He said this from the Botanical Garden in Caracas, where thousands of people gathered to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the anti-imperialist declaration by the leader of the Bolivarian Revolution.
«Twenty years ago we were here (in the Botanical Garden) and Commander Chavez lit a torch for the future. Two days before February 20, the criminal and murderer Leopoldo Lopez and the extreme right had declared the first guarimba that we knew of at that time. They had filled the greater Caracas with violence and said they were going to carry out an insurrection until Chavez left», stressed the head of State in a joint radio and television broadcast.
At that moment, the national leader explained, Commander Chávez called the people to the streets, after constant threats from the sectors to invade Venezuela.
"That day was unforgettable (…) For us, Chavez is alive, present, current, and his legacy is with us. We will know how to defend that legacy, so that this nauseating empire respects Venezuela. Do not mess with the dignity and nobility of a people that is better prepared than ever!" stressed the Head of State.
He highlighted the mobilization that took place this Thursday 20 years later.
«It was a leap year when Chavez emerged, it was a leap year in 2000 when we had a great victory, it was a leap year when we defeated the right in 2004, it was a leap year in 2008 when we swept the elections, it was a leap year in 2012 when Chavez won the great presidential victory on October 7. It was a leap year of resistance and recovery, it was a leap year when we faced the pandemic, and in 2024 let us prepare for the greatest victory of the Venezuelan people, because the leap year brings us luck,» he concluded.
