The Preliminary Committee for the Evaluation of Nominations for the appointment of members of the Citizen Power, announced that starting Monday the requirements for candidates for Attorney General of the Republic and Ombudsman will be published.
The Committee Chairman, Deputy Giuseppe Alessandrello, reported that the Commission for the Review of Citizen Power Nominations was established this Friday. He indicated that the board was appointed and the Commission's operating regulations were implemented during the session. He also announced that the document submission process for applicants will begin on Monday, March 2nd, and continue until March 9th.
He added that on Monday, March 2, the requirements for applicants to submit their documents will be published in three national newspapers and on all the National Assembly's social media platforms. These documents will be analyzed and evaluated, and the list of applicants will then be submitted to the plenary session of the National Assembly.
For his part, the Vice President of the Committee, Deputy Bernabé Gutiérrez, addressed Venezuelans, urging them to "come forward with complete confidence to those seeking the positions of Attorney General or Ombudsman. Let them come and apply. This committee is made up of deputies who are committed to democracy, to the new generations, and to the history of the country," he said.
He pointed out that, given the current situation in Venezuela, "institutions must guarantee total transparency, and this Committee, recently appointed by the Legislative Branch presided over by Dr. Jorge Rodríguez, has that commitment, especially to our own conscience, especially to the country's democratic system. We know that we must be transparent throughout this entire process entrusted to this Committee, in selecting the men and women who may be eligible for this position. Once the entire process is completed, we will present the candidates to the Legislative Branch so that, in accordance with the Constitution of the Republic of Venezuela, it may definitively appoint the Attorney General of the Republic and the Ombudsman."
The Preliminary Nominations Committee
The Preliminary Committee for the Evaluation of Nominations is composed of the following deputies: Giuseppe Alessandrello (president), Bernabé Gutiérrez (vice president), Rodbexa Poleo, Gloria Castillo, Willy Medina, Carlos Mogollón, Carolina García, Roy Daza, José Oscar Villarroel, Pablo Pérez, Julio Hernández, Antonio Ecarri and Luis Augusto Romero.
It is worth remembering that on February 25, the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, and the Ombudsman, Alfredo Ruiz, sent separate communications to the leadership of the National Assembly, offering their respective positions.
Both senior officials had been appointed by the Venezuelan parliament after a credentials competition was held in October 2024.
After the communications were made public, lawyer Larry Daniel Davoe Márquez, who is a specialist in Human Rights, was appointed as the prosecutor in charge, and Tarek William Saab was appointed as the Ombudsman in charge.
