CNE signs agreement with electoral observers

Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America (Ceela) and the Strategic Thinking Observatory for Regional Integration highlighted the transparency of Venezuela's electoral system

The National Electoral Council (CNE) signed agreements this Thursday for the international oversight process of the presidential election on July 28, with the Council of Electoral Experts of Latin America (Ceela) and the Strategic Thinking Observatory for Regional Integration.

The document establishes the terms of collaboration between both parties for the observation of the upcoming presidential elections.

The memorandum establishes the commitments that the electoral support organizations will assume during all phases of the process, as well as the delivery of a report with the respective observations and recommendations.

For its part, the CNE is committed to providing access to all information and documents related to the electoral process, facilitating the work of observers in the voting centers and addressing observations and recommendations.

Prior to the signing of the respective agreements, the president of the CNE, Elvis Amoroso, offered the presidents of (Ceela), Nicanor Moscoso, and the Strategic Thinking Observatory for Regional Integration, Carlos López, a summary of what the organization has been like. of the electoral process.

In this sense, he indicated that all political parties and various sectors of the country were consulted to agree on a date for the elections, resulting in July 28 as the date with the most votes.

Likewise, Amoroso pointed out that some interested in running as candidates, and who at some point were disqualified, had to go directly to the Supreme Court of Justice to find out whether or not they were authorized to participate in the electoral process.

He also highlighted the call for the location of the parties' position on the electoral card, and concluded by stating that the CNE has fully complied with the legal regulations, in line with the agreements of Barbados and Caracas, for the development of the electoral process.

Venezuelan electoral system recognized

The president of Ceela, Nicanor Moscoso, indicated that as observers, their assessments are made known to the CNE, an organization that has the option of making them public.

"In Venezuela, in absolutely every election, we have been asked to make public what we observe," said Moscoso.

He commented that only Brazil and Venezuela have adopted electronic voting, and very recently Paraguay. In this regard, he considered that in other countries in the region electronic voting has not been established "because there is no political decision to take the electoral result out of the hands of the people."

"Today we see that the machine is not being questioned from outside, they are only talking about the political part," he said, indicating that this is not in the hands of the electoral bodies of the countries.

For his part, Carlos López, president of the Strategic Thinking Observatory for Regional Integration, recognized the history of electoral processes in Venezuela for the transparent way they are carried out.

"It is true that it is recognized in the world as one of the most solid and transparent electoral systems, to the point that not even the opposition parties question it," he said.

"We have participated in most of the processes, seeing how those in charge of the opposition agreed and signed everything, that is important and for us it is fundamental because it consolidates democracy," he continued.

"Electoral life is the only way to strengthen democracy, and we celebrate that in Venezuela large sectors of the opposition have decided to participate in this contest."

"We celebrate this situation of transparency in the electoral system. The current CNE is solid and respected by all institutions in the country, and we only hope that the people will show up and vote on July 28," added López.
