Calderón Berti denounces corruption in the Guaidó environment

Juan Guaidó's former "ambassador" in Colombia, Humberto Calderón Berti, denounced this Friday that there was embezzlement of humanitarian aid funds in Cúcuta, Colombia, by the team appointed by the opposition leader to administer it.

In a press conference, he revealed that said aid was stolen by Guaidó's trusted group and wasted on luxuries and other excesses.

"They used prostitutes and alcohol, while part of the opposition placed hope in them to achieve political change," he said.

He asserted that this information was confirmed by the Colombian authorities, who alerted him to what was happening in Cúcuta.

"Colombian authorities presented me with evidence that included fictitious documents and money intended for prostitutes and liquor. As Venezuelan ambassador, I decided to initiate an audit of what happened to determine who was responsible," he said.

Calderón Berti stressed that when he learned of the irregularities that appeared in «PanamPost», he proceeded to inform Leopoldo López, a fugitive from Venezuelan justice since April 30.

He explained that with the knowledge of López, he ordered that an audit be carried out to determine what was happening.

"There was improper handling of resources and people have the right to be informed. I had nothing to do with the leak of information about what happened. The sad thing is not that it was leaked, the sad thing is that it happened," said Calderón Berti.

The former ambassador of Juan Guaidó in Colombia, removed from that position this week, denounced that his former boss - with whom he said he has not had any relations for months - as well as López have in their hands the audit report on the scandalous case for the irregular use of money in Cúcuta, reason that forces them to say what happened to the humanitarian aid.

He described the occurrence of an event of this nature as serious, while pointing out that fighting corruption cannot just remain in speeches, but must be a permanent issue and an example of transparent management.

In that sense, he said that he took the investigation to the Colombian Prosecutor's Office, where investigations are being carried out in this regard and clarified that the time that this instance is taken does not depend on his person.
