The first vice president of the United Socialist Party of Venezuela (Psuv), Diosdado Cabello, stated that the Argentine gendarme who was detained at the border is involved in a conspiracy that was hatched against the country.

The official is a special agent for the Argentine intelligence services, and his mission was to go undercover in the country, contact Venezuelan fugitive Iván Simonovis, "and then carry out an operation to extract the Vente Venezuela leaders holed up in the Argentine Embassy in Caracas."
The information specifies that the operation was to be carried out between December 23 and 25, along with "some paramilitaries who were to arrive in the country via a path on the border with Cúcuta this weekend."
Cabello confirmed that there was a "staged" operation in Venezuela and that the Argentine official supposedly arrived in the country to see his wife, but "his wife is in Argentina."
"Something doesn't add up in their story, what does add up is a terrorist plot against the country with foreign mercenaries. That does add up, everything is very clear, and with the arrest of many of them and the search for others. The first information on the mercenary issue was about individuals from Argentina or Uruguay, then the Spanish CNI (National Intelligence Center) got involved with its mercenaries, we captured several, and they haven't said anything else because they know what we said is true," he emphasized.
He also recalled that more than 470 rifles were found that were believed to be used to cause deaths in Venezuela.

On the other hand, Cabello told Argentina's Minister of Security, Patricia Bullrich, that "it's very clear that you are a fascist."
In response to the official's comment that this situation could be a "cause of war" between the two nations, Cabello lamented that they do not consider the claim to the Falkland Islands as a cause of war, "because kneeling is one thing; they kneel before the British."
