The president of the National Assembly, Deputy Jorge Rodríguez, together with a parliamentary commission, notified the Head of State, Nicolás Maduro, on Wednesday about the start of the ordinary sessions of the 2025-2026 legislative period and the formation of the board of directors.
The meeting was held at the Miraflores Palace with ministerial authorities of the country. The President of Parliament recalled that this process is carried out in compliance with the provisions of the Constitution of the country, following the installation of the National Assembly that took place on January 5.
"This is a parliamentary commission that meets the requirement that it is represented by the entire political spectrum that is active within the National Assembly and we are here at the Government Palace, of the people, to inform you, President Nicolás Maduro Moros, that the parliamentary sessions of the National Assembly have been installed for the period January 5, 2025 - January 5, 2026," he declared.
He also highlighted the work carried out during 2024. "It has not been a small task, it is necessary to emphasize that the process of rebuilding the Legislative Branch in Venezuela has been complex."
"They destroyed it in a period that was characterized by the use of the Venezuelan Parliament for conspiracy, for murder, for the request for invasions, for the request and planning of coups d'état. In other words, they did exactly the opposite of what our constitutional obligation as parliamentarians requires us to do," he added.
Rodríguez reiterated the invitation to President Maduro to attend Parliament on January 10 for his inauguration ceremony.
