Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza rejected the criticisms and attacks by sectors of the Venezuelan right against Cuban collaboration with the people of Venezuela.
"The Venezuelan right is obsessed with Cuba: they are not doctors, they are witches (2003); they do not teach people to read, they indoctrinate (2004); in the CDI (Comprehensive Diagnostic Centers) they wash brains (2007); the Abdala vaccine is useless, it is a scam (2021)," Arreaza listed on his Twitter account, where he also criticized the opposition sector for questioning the recent agreement for the supply of the Abdala vaccine candidate against Covid-19.
Opposition spokesmen and scientific circles adverse to government policies questioned the health intervention activated by the Venezuelan authorities with the drug developed by the island's Center for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, says a note from the Prensa Latina agency.
The Bolivarian Government agreed with Cuba to supply 12 million doses of the Abdala vaccine, to incorporate it into the national immunization campaign against Covid-19.
This vaccine is more than 92 percent effective, as noted by President Nicolás Maduro during the summit of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our America-Peoples' Trade Agreement (ALBA-TCP).
Venezuela aims to guarantee the immunization of 70 percent of the population in the course of 2021, through agreements signed with Russia, China, Cuba and the Global Fund for Access to Vaccines against Covid-19 (Covax) for the supply of the injectables.
