The xenophobia perpetrated against Venezuelans in Iquique last year is repeated in that region of northern Chile. It is a worrying situation in which hatred returned again with xenophobic attacks, in the passive presence of Chilean authorities and carabineros, to destroy and burn the belongings of Venezuelan immigrants, discriminate against and humiliate them. The press says that last Monday there was a mobilization of a discriminatory nature against foreigners and, among the most serious incidents, the dismantling of tents, the humiliation and physical attacks on people, including children, due to the passivity of the security forces who did not intervene. In short, Venezuelans in that country are at risk of being permanent victims of xenophobia, which for them means a critical realism, extremely inhuman, to the point that they are overwhelmed by mistrust of having indemnity again or of getting out of that dangerous situation unharmed. by a terrifying hatred against them.
Xenophobia must be seen as a crime that manifests itself in the promotion or incitement of hatred, discrimination and violence against a person or group for belonging to a nationality. Venezuelans abroad have been victims of this crime and such an attack on human dignity should not only be considered a violation of the right to indemnity of any person outside their country, but also an intentional act of threat, such as suspecting the danger, or what will happen if you don't leave that country. They are intimidating behaviors that make you feel fear or fear to a high degree.
The persecution, discrimination, humiliation and mistreatment of Venezuelans in Iquique is reprehensible. It has been said in the criminal guarantee doctrine that the weaker the person, the fewer rights they have and they are condemned to live in a kind of great “apartheid” that excludes them from the concepts of citizenship and residence, simply because they are poor. It is about condemning immigration through a modern racism in which the terrifying hatred prevails towards the person they brand as the enemy: the immigrant. In favor of the Venezuelan immigrant, the Government must demand respect for their human dignity and guarantees for their indemnity in Chilean territory against the terrifying hatred that day by day expands in Chile and is recently repeated in Iquique.
