In the first round of the elections in Ecuador, the current presidential candidate of the neoliberal far right, Daniel Noboa, put at his disposal all the resources of the State and its institutional apparatus to favor his aspirations and “beat” the candidate of the Citizen Revolution, Luisa González, in the first round. This was not the case, and they must go to the runoff. They will face each other again in April, despite all the legal violations of the constitutional norm, which forces him to “take leave” to separate himself from the presidency and hand it over to Vice President Verónica Abad while he serves as a candidate. However, and in violation of the Constitution and ignoring the ruling of the Constitutional Court, he decides to delegate the role of President to his secretary, Cynthia Gelibert.
Violations of the legal order of the electoral processes were the “norm” from the same institution that “guarantors” transparency and the free and sovereign exercise of the legitimate right to choose freely, the National Electoral Council. Its president, Diana Atmaint, on the same day of the elections “invites” the “boy president” to start the electoral process and gives him the microphone to address a few words to the Ecuadorian people: “… your duty is to choose for democracy and freedom to erase the past corruption of the leftist governments, which have destroyed our country.” An inalienable practice of abuse of power. The media in the hands of the right sank into a silence complicit in such abuse of power that capitalizes on the surrender of a country to the status of colony of the United States and the extreme right tributaries of the “fascist international.”
It is not only an opportunism and an obscene abuse of power; it is to ignore in the eyes of the “international community”, which is abusively critical of Venezuela, any type of norm that hinders its “assault on power”, in total coherence with the objectives of the “International of Fascism”. The silence of all the governments of this small international community of geopolitical sectarianism is equally obscene: a self-proclaimed “international community” made up of the USA, the European Union and the second-in-command of the deceased Lima Group remain silent in the face of the violations of the country’s laws carried out by the “young candidate”, Daniel Noboa. The owners of almost all the media and information on a planetary scale have their seats in these countries. Their objective of “survival” is to create matrices of opinion favourable to ideologies that support the political praxis of the extreme right.
It cannot be said that these were “fair elections” because of all the abuse of power by the “boy president” Daniel Noboa. Apparently, the legality and transparency of the electoral processes for the free, sovereign and peaceful exercise of power by each voter is not only a problem of internal laws or the violence exercised by the government of Daniel Noboa but of the geopolitics of power, that is, of the coloniality of power, in a context submerged in criminal violence where various drug cartels fight to the death for control of the production, trafficking and trade of a territory flooded by drugs, taken over by the government of Lenín Moreno, followed by Guillermo Lasso and continued by Daniel Noboa. This know-how of the right in the “drug business” left the Ecuadorian month of January as the most violent month in 2025, with 854 violent deaths in the prelude to the elections scheduled for February 9.
April 13 is the date set by the National Electoral Council, directed behind the scenes by Noboa and his underlings, for the second round of elections and the media, all in the hands of the right, have already begun their work against the candidate Luisa González to hide the fact that today in Ecuador, governed by the “boy president,” extreme poverty has reached record levels: 26%; critical poverty: 47.3%; regions with permanent power rationing and others with two or three weeks without electricity, from the safest country under Rafael Correa to the most violent country in South America, unemployment, corruption, violence, healthcare practically privatized, fuel shortages, child malnutrition, femicides... and many other indicators of a government, such as the growing foreign debt, which has excluded an entire people from public policies but directly benefits drug cartels and the same old business class: a racist oligarchy that racializes indigenous peoples but pays tribute to the small brotherhood that pulls the strings of international fascism.
There are two paths that the Ecuadorian electorate faces in the second round and between which it must choose: 1.) continue the neoliberal path undertaken by the successive governments of Lenín Moreno, Guillermo Lasso and Daniel Noboa, which means the return of the US to the former military base of Manta, this time under the control of the Southern Command, as well as the return of the DEA, the CIA, and many other agencies whose presence in Ecuadorian territory is to support the interests of the White House in Ecuador, nothing to do with democracy, freedom or human rights, and 2.) Luisa González's option means resuming, with all the difficulties that this would imply today, the route of the Citizen Revolution initiated, then, by Rafael Correa.
In this second round, the necessary and unavoidable alliances between the Citizen Revolution and social movements, environmentalists, feminists, Afro-descendant communities and the powerful Confederation of Indigenous Nationalities of Ecuador, CONAIE, currently presided over by the environmental engineer Leonidas Iza, of the Quichua people, are imposed. It is not a minor detail that Noboa has received the favor of the vote in some areas with an indigenous majority such as Pichincha: he has impoverished them, he has forgotten them in the management of the government, he has increased their levels of precariousness of life, he has privatized their historical resources, such as water, and yet they favored him with the vote before voting for Luisa Gonález, but Iza's 5% in the first round on February 9th can make the difference in the second round of elections in the context of a "technical tie" between Noboa, 44.43% and Luis González, 44.17%. However, we cannot ignore the necessary questions: why do people vote for their executioners, their impoverishers, their haters, those responsible for their misery and precariousness of life? Is the alienation so deep and historical that the moment of choosing them causes a kind of collective amnesia that makes them forget their own precariousness of life, their outrageous conditions of existence? NOTE for next Monday's article. In the capitalist world system, a new pole of geopolitical decisions is emerging: "G-2", formed by USA-Russia. It is being created around the “conjuncture” of the end of the war between the Russian Federation and Ukraine, which will be forced to peace without territorial return to the old borders established in 1992, without the possibility of joining NATO and seeing its entry into the European Union postponed, at least it would not be part of that club before 2030. A negotiation on peace in Ukraine that leaves the UN itself and the European Union aside, in a state of “defenselessness.” A historic humiliation for the euro zone, despite its unwavering submission to Joe Biden’s decisions regarding the imposition of sanctions on the Russian Federation, including the blowing up of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline. Today the European Union, with 30% deindustrialization and access to extremely expensive energy supplied by the USA, seems to have lost its geopolitical compass internationally, but endogenously it is walking steadily into the arms of fascism. The “European Garden” is drying up; For now, the one who is is Volodymyr Zelensky.
