You probably already know that, in compliance with constitutional provisions, the National Electoral Council (CNE) called for the comprehensive elections of deputies of the National Assembly (AN), governors of the states and representatives to the legislative councils and municipal councils on April 27, 2025. The current state and municipal governors were elected in 2021 and the parliamentarians in 2020.
Looking back, the social base of anti-Chavezism does not quickly overcome the effect of a defeat, as happened after several victories of President Chavez. Above all, we remember his victory in the 2004 recall referendum, which, in turn, put an end to the longest episode of this confrontation (2001-2004), when the media, elites and parties, led by the US government, directed permanent attacks on the national government, including a coup, oil and commercial sabotage and an incessant and maddening propaganda campaign, until the Venezuelan people voted overwhelmingly NO to the attacks in a process watched by the world.
In the regional and parliamentary elections of November 2004, the MVR won the majority of positions; in the parliamentary elections of 2005, the so-called Democratic Unity Roundtable (the one that succeeded the Democratic Coordinator, do you remember?) did not participate, and in 2006, Chávez won the presidential elections with more than 60% of the votes.
Now, after President Maduro was sworn in on January 10, 2025, the opposition began mourning for the umpteenth loss, going through the phases of Denial, Anger and Depression, with Negotiation and Acceptance pending.
In the midst of these unfinished stages of mourning, it is most likely that the anti-Chavez supporters will decide not to participate in the upcoming elections, and who knows for how long. So, we can foresee that the Great Patriotic Pole will obtain a massive victory in a very high percentage of the electoral districts on the 27th of April.
