This March 1 marks the 140th anniversary of the beginning of oil production in Venezuela with the extraction of the first barrel in the Eureka well on March 1, 1883, belonging to the Compañía Petrolia del Táchira, a company registered in 1882 with a capital 100% national (96% private and 4% public).
Petrolia is the first known mixed oil company, as a result of the fact that, like the shareholders, President Antonio Guzmán Blanco knew the importance of liquid hydrocarbons, which years before made the doctor and President José María Vargas express that the discovery and analysis of the resource by spontaneous emanation (menes) obtained and taken to his laboratory, makes it more valuable and important than gold and silver.
The famous and appreciated for its historical perspective, the Zumaque well (Zulia), which produced its first barrel on July 31, 1914, is the first to extract crude oil by the transnational sector 33 years after the Eureka well.
The Eureka well can be visited in the La Alquitrana park, where today oil emanates from various sources and in the Eureka well itself, powered by natural gas, where there is also the drilling rig used in 1883 with state-of-the-art technology. for the time and the very versatile and small plant (refinery) to initially produce kerosene and later gasoline with the appearance of the motor vehicle, products for the national domestic market and exported to Colombia at the time.
To name two points out of so many in which this 100% Venezuelan well exponentially affects the past and current reality of our country, first, it allows us to verify that the blockade and military attack of 1902-1903 during the government of President Cipriano Castro was for oil, the debt thing is like affirming that today the United States imposes sanctions on us together with Europe for human rights.
And, the second, in that the true origin of the state oil company PDVSA is in Petrolia del Táchira.
These are very valuable data when the people of Venezuela led by President Nicolás Maduro Moros face the second oil blockade against our nation, and defeat them just like President Cipriano Castro and our ancestors.
