37 primary school students from different Yaracuyan institutions presented this Saturday the regional test of the 3rd Recreational Language Olympics, to earn their place in the national phase that will be held on June 15.

The Language Coordinator of the Recreational Language Olympics in the entity, Professor Rafael Linárez Mendoza, reported that the boys from 4th to 6th grade who achieve a gold medal in the results of the test will move on to the national phase.

Children in 1st, 2nd and 3rd grade do not participate in the national phase, but they do receive awards with gold, bronze and silver medals, depending on the results they obtain in the exams this Saturday.

Linárez Mendoza mentioned that the preliminary tests were carried out in March, in all the institutions that wanted to participate. This phase was carried out with the application of a written test for each level, from 1st to 6th grade.

Once the students presented the tests, the best were selected and invited to move on to the regional phase, held this Saturday, in which 37 children participated. Both the regional and national tests are presented online, following rigorous evaluation mechanisms.

The regional head of Olympic Language highlighted that the tests cover areas such as reading comprehension ability, relationship and analogy of words, semantics and other important aspects of language and grammar.

He said that the event is organized by the Recreational Olympics System, Metropolitan University and the Motores por la Paz Foundation, with the help and sponsorship of different private companies.

Plans to hold the Youth Language Olympics

The teacher mentioned that Yaracuy requested the expansion of these Language Olympics to the youth level, that is, to the secondary stage, so that high school students also participate in the next editions.

In this regard, he indicated that the Recreational Olympics System accepted the request, which will evaluate to possibly include the secondary stage in the corresponding days in 2024.

Great expectations in young people

The children who participate in these academic Olympiads do so not only for the sake of competition, but also to successfully advance their studies and contribute with their work to the improvement of society.

Such is the case of José Alejandro Marquina, 15 years old, a high school student at Colegio Los Ángeles de San Felipe, who helps train the children who participate in the Recreational Language Olympics.

The young man, at the same time, competes in the Robotics Olympics with a new project called “Rescue Eyes”, which aims to help people with visual deficiencies to move more safely in cases of accidents or natural disasters.

Marquina's proposal, which he developed with his colleagues Rubén García and Guillermo Herrera, consists of the implementation of a belt, anklet and headband, equipped with sensors that help people with visual disabilities to avoid obstacles and leave any place alone. affected by any earthquake or similar event.

For his part, José Ignacio Quintana, 13 years old and a 1st year student at Manuel Cedeño School, also helps children prepare for the Olympics. He won two consecutive years the bronze medal in the national phase of the Language Olympiad, and gold and silver medals in the regional stage of Mathematics and Language.

“These Olympics help a lot with our academic training, they allow us to be increasingly better in our studies and direct us towards better comprehensive and personal training. For me, for example, they are a great support to advance to university with the necessary knowledge to become that good engineer that I dream of being,” concluded the young man.

The activity was carried out with the support of the Matices foundation, an institution that in Yaracuy is in charge of organizing the Recreational Olympics in all its modalities: Mathematics, Language, Robotics and History.
