Congo escaped from captivity in which it was for 20 years

He was tied with a chain to a tree, living like a domestic animal

For nearly 20 years, unable to enjoy the freedom to run and grow with his pack, he was tied to a tree by a chain, living like a domestic animal. It is a capuchin monkey that goes by the name of Congo, which was recently rescued on public roads in the Veritas sector of the Maracaibo municipality, in the state of Zulia.

After the complaints of the neighbors and protectionists of the Support Group in the Zulia state of the Canine Network (RAC) and the will of its regional coordinator, Jessika García, the primate was helped and handed over to the authorities to seek to provide better well-being .

The RAC learned of the case and for several days they were feeding him to gain his trust and ensure that the place where he will spend the night did not harm him. During that journey, the group informed the Nevado Mission that the animal was in a vacant lot to which it fled after remaining under the responsibility of relatives of its owners, who traveled to Colombia.

García and his first-born, Marzia Albano, in addition to his son-in-law, Jean Fernández, both volunteers of the organization, undertook a permanent surveillance to be able to recover Congo, with the help of a neighbor of the place, Elizabeth Finol.

Days before, the monkey voluntarily arrived at Finol's house, thanks to the fact that it has an extraordinary sense of smell, but it escaped, and for a week recovering the capuchin was the cause of an entire community, since the psychological damage that they caused reflected it in aggressive behavior when they tried to capture him.

The protectionists, along with Finol, patiently managed to calm the Congo down and seized him and finally handed him over to the relevant institutions for relocation.

The marks on the waist are a reflection of the indolence of its former owners who mercilessly subjected the monkey to two decades of confinement, but the sensitivity of those who intervened, allowed Congo today to be in a better place under the custody of the Ministry of Ecosocialism, and in transit to a home.

The result of so much neglect was a low weight and a psychological disorder that made the monkey an animal, which will find it difficult to adapt to others of its kind, say animal protectionists. The RAC currently advocates that he not be transferred to a zoo, and that the pertinent investigation be made into why he was chained for so many years, and what was the way in which those who had him received him.

How to report animal abuse?

In these types of cases, such as that of Congo, it is important not to be indifferent and go to the corresponding authorities to punish those who commit animal abuse, preventing disclosures that can alert the abuser.

A complaint about animal abuse can be formalized before the communal council of your community and nuclei of the Nevado Mission in the national territory. Before the Bolivarian National Police Corps and the Public Ministry, a complaint of this type can also be made, so that the life of the animal prevails above all.

It is prudent to avoid involving minors. For this it is better to have the accompaniment of a representative.

When formalizing the complaint with the corresponding body, it is necessary to provide the authorities with personal contact information, the description and location of the case with the accused.

Likewise, the evidence that supports the complaint, with photos and videos, is essential.
