“Apple Intelligence” will integrate AI throughout its ecosystem

Apple Intelligence will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro/Max, but not on the standard models. Also on Macs and iPads with an M1 chip or higher, and Siri will now arrive in English

The technology giant Apple announced this Monday its own free artificial intelligence (AI) for its products, which will be called 'Apple Intelligence', as well as the union with OpenAI so that its assistant Siri can access ChatGPT to respond to its users' responses. users later this year.

The CEO of the company with the bitten apple, Tim Cook, stressed this Monday at the WWDC developers conference that Apple's AI will be “indispensable for his company's products,” as it will make them “more useful and pleasant.”

The presentation of “Apple Intelligence” marks a turning point starting today for a company that has taken its time when presenting its first foray into the AI segment, highlights EFE.

Those responsible for the company have wanted to make the popular acronym (AI, for Artificial Intelligence, in English) their own, and have used them to give their own name to this family of options: welcome to “Apple Intelligence,” says Xataka.

A private hybrid AI

Tim Cook introduced this important launch by indicating that for them Apple Intelligence had to align with the keys to their strategy for years. This AI had to be powerful, intuitive, integrated into the product experience, personal and, above all, private.

It is a section on which the explanation of its options has focused a lot. According to Craig Federighi, Apple's software manager, Apple Intelligence had to do everything "correctly", and to do so they focus whenever they can on the execution of the models locally.

This AI system does not collect your personal data, something that is achieved according to Apple thanks to the integration of software and hardware. Generative AI models require a lot of computing power, and according to Apple, the chips in the latest iPad, iPhone and Mac (no Apple Watch or Airpods, it seems, at the moment) are capable of offering that power.

However, as rumored, those local AI functions will be combined with AI functions in the cloud. Apple Intelligence will analyze the complexity of our request, and if it detects that more resources are needed, it will execute said request on its servers, in its own cloud.

AI in our daily routine

Once the bases of its operation were explained, Apple wanted to review all the generative AI functions that Apple Intelligence will have. Here what has been seen are essentially many of the possibilities that we have already been enjoying for some time through other platforms, and that, for example, Microsoft has also been integrating into Windows, he indicates.

For example, there is the Rewrite option that can help us write all types of texts, such as cover letters, emails that have a more informal (or formal) tone or documents that, thanks to this system, will complete text or rewrite it in a that is more aligned with the message we were seeking to convey in the way we wanted to convey it.

There are striking functions such as Smart Reply, which, for example, detects what questions we are asked in an email, answers them, and writes the email directly for us.

The option to summarize texts has also been known for a few months, and here Apple also applies it even to summarize email messages or message notifications. In fact, Apple Intelligence's AI wants to go further.

Thus, with these options, Apple operating systems can detect which messages are the most priority in Mail, and can also detect which messages are most important among notifications or reduce/summarize their content if we do not want so many distractions.

Image generation is another of the logically prominent options of Apple Intelligence. With these functions we can, for example, benefit from the so-called “Genmoji”, the AI generation of emojis: just write what we want to obtain a character in emoji format. We can base those emojis on contacts or people from the photos we have.

New section called “Image Playground”

This allows images to be generated by AI directly from our devices. The capacity of this generative AI model will have to be evaluated, but Apple has at least focused on images more typical of comics and cartoons, perhaps with the aim of avoiding the problems that, for example, Google suffered with its inclusive images.

These AI functions can “intervene” in our note-taking in Notes: a tool called “Image Wand” is capable of, based on a scribble by us on the iPad, generate a much more professional image using Image Playground. It is an option that is also known from other platforms that do not use a text prompt, but rather a prompt with an image and then generate something from them.

The generative AI options also serve to make objects disappear from our photos (like Google's magic editor), and there are other identical functions here, such as being able to perform “natural” searches for photos using natural language.

This way we can make a request like “Katie with stickers on her face” and Apple Intelligence will locate those images in our Apple Photos library. Again, a proposal that we had already seen in Google Photos when the Mountain View company presented this option at Google I/O a few weeks ago.

ChatGPT to Siri

Apple joined OpenAI, as did Microsoft last year. Later this year, Apple will allow Siri to access GPT-4o, OpenAI's most advanced chatbot, to answer user questions.

Ultimately, however, it will be up to users to decide if they want their questions to be shared with ChatGPT.

Beyond having access to the popular chatbot, Apple's AI will power Siri so that you can perform actions within and between iOS 18 applications, such as sending an article to a group in message, or saving an address to a contact simply by 'viewing it. " on the screen.

'Apple Intelligence' will also extend to Apple tablets and computers.

Apple Intelligence will be available for free this summer as part of the beta versions de iOS 18, iPadOS 18 y macOS Sequoia. We will see it in the fall in its final version, but for now only in the United States and in English.

Some features, platforms and languages will be offered over the next year, but beware: Apple Intelligence will be available on the iPhone 15 Pro/Max, but not on the standard models. Also on Macs and iPads with an M1 chip or higher, and Siri will currently arrive in English.
