They seized more than a ton of cocaine in Anzoátegui

Joint operation between Venezuela and France left three detained

The national anti-drug superintendent of Venezuela, Richard Lopez Vargas reported the seizure of 1.155,9 kilograms of cocaine transported by a Venezuelan-flagged ship called “Magdalena II”, when he was sailing 55 nautical miles from the island of Martinique.

From the Main Coast Guard Station T/N Fernando Fernández (EPGGTA), based in the city of Guanta in the state of Anzoátegui, offered details of the joint procedure between the authorities of France and Venezuela, and confirmed the arrest of its 3 crew members: a Venezuelan , a Colombian and a Uruguayan.

In this regard, the National Anti-Drug Superintendency (Sunad) detailed that the drug was packaged in a thousand wrappers.

In Venezuela, the investigation was led by the Ministry of Interior Relations, Justice and Peace, under the direction of President Nicolás Maduro and the head of the portfolio, Remigio Ceballos Ichaso, as part of efforts to combat illicit drug trafficking.

On the other hand, López Vargas specified that with this operation, more than 25 tons of drugs have been seized so far this year (5,18% more than those seized in the same period of 2023) and about 600 people have been arrested in these procedures.

As you may recall, in another joint operation carried out in the month of May, 2.400 kilograms of cocaine were seized in Martinique waters and 10 people were arrested.
