Prosecutor Saab spoke about the use of human rights as a tool of political pressure

Saab participated in the XII Legal Forum in Saint Petersburg, Russia, where he denounced how the concept has been used to intervene in the country

During his speech at the XII International Legal Forum in the city of Saint Petersburg (Russia), the Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, stated that the Human Rights (HR) system has been in crisis since its birth, according to a note from press of the Public Ministry.

The Attorney General of the Republic, Tarek William Saab, who is at the event as a special guest, gave this Wednesday his first presentation of the two scheduled according to the agenda.

During her intervention, the highest authority of the Venezuelan Public Ministry analyzed the current situation regarding the abuse and manipulation of the concept of Human Rights, as a tool of political pressure in the international arena by the forces of public order.

«The international Human Rights (HR) system has been in crisis since its birth. I want to highlight that Venezuela has been one of the most visible and most symbolic victims on a planetary scale, of how the manipulation of an issue as sacred as that of Human Rights has been used to intervene in a massive way,” emphasized the Attorney General.

Sanctions: massive human rights violations

"Convert, for example, the use of unilateral coercive sanctions as massive violations of Human Rights in this case of Venezuela, which prevented us, even during the Covid pandemic, from purchasing medicines, vaccines, and food," highlighted Tarek William Saab in the event.

During his visit to Russia, the Venezuelan Attorney General will also participate as a speaker tomorrow, Thursday, June 27, where he will address the topic: "Punishment before trial, is there any alternative to detention?"

Tarek William Saab participated alongside different international speakers including: Aslan Abashidze (Head of the Department of International Law, Patrice Lumumba Russian University of Friendship of Peoples), Marghub Salim Butt, (Director of the Permanent Independent Commission on Human Rights of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation), Mikhail Vinogradov (Head of the General Directorate of International Legal Cooperation, Prosecutor General's Office of the Russian Federation, Arnaud Devele (International Human Rights Lawyer in France), Elena Dovgan (United Nations Special Rapporteur on the negative impact of unilateral coercive measures on the exercise of human rights), Mikhail Lobov (Judge of the European Court of Human Rights of the Russian Federation – 2022), Amal Yaziji, (Professor of International Law, Damascus University).

In addition, the presentation of the books "Discourses at the foot of the chamber" and "In a boreal landscape" will be held in Saint Petersburg and Moscow with the presence of their author Tarek William Saab. These activities will take place on June 27 and 29, 2024.
