Court rectified sentence against thugs of a detective

The Court of Appeals of Anzoátegui increased the sentence from 14 to 19 years in prison

The Court of Appeals of Anzoátegui rectified the sentence imposed on two accused of participating in the murder of Antonio José Álvarez Guaiquirian (36), detective of the cicpc assigned to the International Police (Interpol), according to judicial sources.

The murder of the official occurred on August 13, 2023 and his body was left near Puente Gómez, Barcelona (Anzoátegui).

Preliminary investigations showed that Antonio José went to collect a debt from Edgar Manuel Ortega and he, not having a way to pay it, decided to contact Joel Ñeon Suberon and Darío Rafael Castro Fleming to plan the murder of the official.

To accomplish this mission, they invited the detective to drink liquor and, in the middle of the evening, they shot him multiple times. Afterwards, they doused him with fuel to incinerate him, using tires around him.

For this fact, Castro and Ortega were captured, who admitted the facts during the preliminary hearing held on January 10 and consequently were sentenced to 14 years.

The defendants' defense appealed, the Court of Appeals dismissed the complaints and increased the sentence from 14 to 19 years in prison during a hearing held on May 20.

All were accused of the crimes of homicide qualified with treachery for futile reasons as co-authors, with the aggravating circumstance of arson and aggravation.

The authorities are searching for the third person involved in the homicide, that is, Joel Ñeon Suberon.
